Quinnipiac Bobcats - 2025 Offseason

Next year's OOC schedule is shaping up to be another tough test for QU. One thing about Rand, he's not afraid to schedule some of the top teams.

Confirmed opponents
10/10 & 10/11 - Ice Breaker Tournament at ASU (Notre Dame, QU, ASU, Alaska Fairbanks)
TBD at Boston College
TBD at CT Ice Tournament at Yale (QU, Yale, SHU, UConn)

Possible opponents
Home vs. Holy Cross
Home vs. Maine (2)
Away at Penn State
Home vs. Boston University

Another interesting offseason ahead. Doesn't feel like we're far off from being title contenders again if we get some good additions out of the portal.

They need to rebuild the bottom 6 of the forwards. Outside of Victor they need massive upgrades around him on the 3rd line and a whole new 4th line IMO. They can't trot Cipollone, Power and McGroarty out there on a 4th line and be competitive. Those 3 should be healthy scratches and I am kind of surprised McGroarty isn't in the portal. The 3rd D pairing right now is kind of unknown as well.

You’re probably right on the top 3 possible opponents. Maine owes us another two game series in probably the final year of a 4 year deal. At Penn State is logical considering we hosted them this past year. And I guess we will play Holy Cross again due to the Riga connection. So based on all the opponents listed above minus BU thats 9 games. We would need 3 more games to fill. I wonder if we can get a western team for two games this year in Hamden and return the trip that following year.

Seems like we have been scheduling Northeastern at least one game lately as well. It was weird to me that PSU was just one game last year, but assume it could be 2 in Happy Valley. I would make that trip since my wife is a PSU alumni.

yes I could see a 2 game in happy valley and them returning the favor for a single game the next year. Northeastern is without a rink so they could have some scheduling issues. Also I’ve seen the list of home opponents for them and we are not on it. I don’t think we are playing them unless they play in Hamden again.

I'm guessing BU will be on the schedule because they owe us a game from 2023-24 when QU went to Agganis. We likely didn't play them this past season because they were in the Friendship Four in Ireland.

Also, I'm not sure if AIC was originally on QU's schedule for next season. I know a lot of teams, like UMass, were scrambling to find a late replacement. The Minutemen ended up scheduling Northeastern in a non-conference game. Remember, these OOC schedules are made year or two in advance so to find an opponent at this point is quite difficult.

We probably weren’t playing AIC this coming year if UMass had to schedule Northeastern for an extra game because have to think they would have scheduled us instead.

I think I saw in the scheduling thread that some of the HE teams were playing a OOC game against each other next season. To me it makes more sense for NU to play us at home instead. But what do I know. Maybe we are not interested.

Edit - Sorry! Responded before I saw the above responses.

Ok so let's keep track of this...

Wilmer-Marcellus-Schwartz
Cerbone-Pelosi-Borgula/Sykora/Lansing
Vidicek-Czerneckianair-Borgula/Sykora/Lansing
Cipollone-McGroarty-Power

Need: 2 Forwards which would give us an entirely new 4th line

Groenewold - Leddy
Saunderson - Gilson
Tivey/Schultz - Hockley/Blace
Tivey/Schultz-Hockley/Blace
Tobey

Too many D: I don't think Tobey comes

Marinov
Silverstein
Need: 1 Goalie

no thanks on that bottom line of power/cip/mcgroarty. They bring no production and it makes that line completely unplayable. Those 3 should be the healthy scratches.

Agree... I think two new forwards they bring in with one of the new freshman will make up that bottom line... with the existing 4th line a healthy scratch most nights??? Altough I do think Power came along nicely at the end of last season. Two transfers and incoming freshman can potentially move the third line down... it's going to be a fight to crack the lineup hopefully. Sykora and Lansing would be true freshman but are fun to watch and great players... each with the ability to come and displace any of the players on the forward roster.

I am a bit concerned with all the new D coming. Gilson is an offensive dman that is proven in the NCAA already and should be a nice balance with Leddy and Groenewold who became our two best dmen when Bohlinger got hurt. The BCHL and Q defenseman coming in may struggle playing defense as both are run and gun type places (even if they are older). You saw that with Hockley coming in mid-season last year. Offensively Hockley he is fine, but he needs A LOT of work defending the rush and in the defensive zone. Schulz has 30 points but is also -30. Tivey has 40 points but is also -42. They may play Groenewold with Gilson and Leddy with another offensively minded left dman like Saunderson to balance the d pairs. But I think Groenewold and Leddy have the potential to be one of the best shut down d pairs in college next season.

I think the top 4 of the D will be ok. It's the major junior guys coming in that I have questions about. I don't know if Nathan Tobey comes in this year either. They can hold him another year but frankly I kind of want him to decommit at this point as he just hasn't developed from his USNTDP days.
