Quinnipiac Bobcats 2022 Off-Season

Hi Bobcats,
Larries fan here, wondering if any of you can make sense to me out of Smilanic leaving for Wisco? He's a terrific player (and I'm actually pretty happy we won't face him at least twice next season).
Back a few years our team lost players because of the coaching fiasco, but your coach is terrific, well-respected by all--so that can't be it, can it? So, just a personal preference, or the chance at a different major? Not trying to troll here, but it sure seems as if this new transfer rule is more bad than good, with MANY players just opting for "greener" pastures.

Obviously no one here knows, but I would guess maybe has to do with how weak the ECAC has been the last couple years, that he wants to get higher-level competition in preparation for his pro career.

Ty was an exciting player for sure but he had a rough 2nd half this past season. Seemed to me that whatever injury he incurred at the World Juniors in December had a profound effect on his overall game. Add in the fact that he, at many times, was a one-way player who tried to do too much by himself. It's as if he was playing outside the system a lot of times.

He came in with a ton of potential and frankly never lived up to it. While he had a great freshman campaign, he left a lot on the table. At the end of the day my guess is that he was told his style no longer fit the mold for the team. Unfortunately, that's the reality with the current transfer rules. He gets another opportunity to peddle his wares, and Quinnipiac builds a team that plays as a cohesive unit to a particular system.

I wish him well at Wisconsin. If he's a good as has been claimed and he reaches deep inside himself, he can turn his career around.

Schedule is out and IMHO, IT SUCKS! 12 home games. 2 Games @ NoDak (Highlight), UMass and Lowell possibly in Ireland, may be must wins. And then, NOTHING! Maine, 2 w/LIU, HC, C’MON MAN! Can’t have any bad Losses in ECAC or we’ll be watching the tourney from home.

Equipment Delays — As Quinnipiac mounted a comeback against Michigan in the NCAA Tournament, goalie Erik Portillo took well over three minutes to have a skate fixed. Some believe the delay was dragged out unnecessarily, and would like to see a rule where there's a time limit before the backup must enter the game.

…..one of the NCAA hockey topics that is being discussed by Rules Committee this year

We're playing Dartmouth in the opening round of the Friendship Four. According to the UMass Hockey Schedule, which was announced today, the Minutemen play Lowell in the first round and we face the Big Green.

3 games against Dartmouth next season. Great.

It’s another pathetic weak schedule which basically forces this team to essentially run the table again in the ecac regular season

For the first time in fifteen years I’m wondering if it’s worth it to renew my season tickets. Where is Jack McDonald when we need him!

It’s probably just easier to get single game tickets. They have had a pathetic schedule for years and it does nothing for them in preparation for the NCAA tournament.

I wonder if the bigger programs are shying away from us due to the weakness of the ECAC post-COVID? It's all about PWR now and our regular season schedule is inherently weak.

Rand has said getting western teams to come east is always a struggle. Maybe this schedule is an exacerbation of that?

BG came east during the Covid season, might there be a trip to northwest Ohio sometime in the future for you guys? RPI is on our home schedule this year, it's the back half of the home-and-home series that started last year.

Bowling Green to Hamden is about the same distance as it is to Mankato/St. Thomas so for us that type of travel is all in a day's work. So the question is do you guys want to hop on a sleeper bus and travel west to make these series happen? I know the Michigan CCHA teams would also be up for home-and-home meet ups (edit: Tech just finished a home-and-home series with Clarkson).

I agree only 12 home games with only 1 being out of conference and thats against LIU, not sure its worth it. Also hate the long gap from Jan 7 until Feb 17 without a home game. I get the CT Ice is in the middle but those games are expensive especially if you do not plan on going to the non-QU games and weather is always a possible issue.

I am surprised that your game vs Dartmouth would not be a league game in the Friendship Four. All the Hockey East games
in Belfast vs Hockey East opponents have been league games.

Pretty sure they did away with that in 2019. Having them as league games makes no sense because it's a neutral site. Plus, it's a loss of a home game for the fans.

Hockey East teams have always played a league game in the Friendship Four and will again this year with
the Lowell vs UMass game
