Quinnipiac Bobcats 2022-23: The Quest Continues...

A bad goalie and bad defensive team, no matter how good offensively, is a good matchup for us.
This. It was apparent early on that their goalie was very shaky. Terrible handling the puck. QU had a lot of odd man rushes (and a 2 on none!) Bury a couple of those and this is a rout.
Well done Bobcats! Now close the deal!

Incredible win. Perhaps one of the biggest in program history, along with the BC Frozen Four win in '16.

Bring on Minnesota!

Shout out to all the North Dakota fans at Amalie Arena tonight, who were all cheering for Quinnipiac. IMHO, the best fan base in college hockey. Thank you, UND fans!

Congrats on the great win. Saw it in person, the QU D was awesome. Kept Mich to the outside all night. Good luck Saturday.

From his postgame presser.

“We don’t mind being the underdog,” Pecknold said. “Nobody gave us a chance to win tonight, nobody will give us a chance on Saturday, but we’ll find a way to figure it out.”

Is it Saturday yet? Can't make it to Tampa for the game, but hoping they do a watch party on campus or something. Not going to say I feel confident, but if we defend the way we did tonight, we can do this.

What a win! So proud of this team. I think Rand learned a lot coaching the US junior team on what he needs to do to beat these types of teams. We just need these guys to give it their all 1 more time. Would be so nice to get that Natty! It will not be easy no doubt.

Really fun game to watch last night. Even after QU scored early in the 3rd, I was thinking that there was no way that Michigan was not going to score again. Fantastic job holding them to only 2 goals.

3rd time in the championship game the charm for Rand? By the end of the season Michigan was playing better hockey than Minnesota. Not by much, but I watched the Big 10 championship game and Michigan looked really good, on the same level as Minnesota. If QU can beat Michigan they can beat Minnesota. Will they? We will find out tomorrow! Go Bobcats!

Where's everyone watching the game from tomorrow? I'm thinking of heading up to Hamden for the watch party at Eli's. Don't think I can watch tomorrow's game from home without getting a very strongly-worded letter from the homeowner's association.

From what I hear Eli's was packed last night. I suspect tomorrow will be worse.

Also heard there might be something at the arena but can't find any info on it.

I'll be screaming from my living room, scaring the dogs, and making the Mrs question why she married me!

Go Q!

I saw somewhere that the on-campus event is only for students. I can absolutely imagine they don't want visitors on campus for the game considering it could get a little rowdy.

I'll make sure to get to Eli's early if I go!

Let's go Bobcats!

Certainly rooting for you tomorrow. Beating Ohio State, Michigan and Minnesota would be quite the statement.

Ya think?

Some dope remarked on another thread that the Q was a clutch and grab team, when that style of hockey was buried many years ago. Interference is actually called all the time now.

Q is a big, over-aged type of team, but it keeps the pedal to the metal, no matter the score. Swarmed all over Michigan even when it had the late lead.

Bobcats eat gophers all the time.

Go Q!

Ok back to the feels as I wake up in Tampa.

That was 100% the biggest win in school history. BC in 2016 was the previous in my opinion, but the talent on this Michigan team and the way we controlled and finished late as opposed to hanging on vs BC cements it.

Now anyone from the Big 10 reading this is laughing at me saying that’s the biggest win in school history. We were Division 2, 25 years ago. When our coach was hired he was paid less than $10k, he was a HS teacher and we practiced at midnight….astonishing. Our highest draft pick in school history left after last season to transfer. Other than that, we’ve had two 3rd rounders (Toews and Petruzelli?! I forget) and a BUNCH of 6 and 7th rounders. It is incredible what Rand has done with “so little” high end talent. How he was not the national coach of the year across the board is flat out ridiculous. Nothing to take away from Motzko, but the dude has an AHL team talent wise (all lines considered). I’m not sure if one guy on our team will ever be a full time NHL guy, maybe Lipkin if he continues to take a jump next year. If that doesn’t scream coach of the year, then cancel the award.

The talent gap was apparent to me Thursday. You think of our stick work on the Graf and Lipkin breakaways, those were relatively weak moves on Portillo, it’s likely that Michigan would’ve buried both those chances. That Fantili goal was ridiculous. But we can make up for skill, as everyone has seen the last two games. I thought we got too reliant on our sticks when Seamus Casey scored his goal and another time he walked right into a great scoring chance, would like to see more body used. Minnesota will key in on this.

We have a third hill to climb today, and it’s the biggest one we’ve seen. This is a similar situation to 2016 with that stacked NoDak team. Minny is as good, likely better. We didn’t look like we belonged on the same ice as them at times back then, we’re better prepared this year. We had some bad bounces and Garteig made a big gamble that didn’t pay off, we can’t make a mistake and we have to limit PP’s where there is more space and skill can shine even brighter. Close will be much better than Portillo and their D won’t give up as many Grade A’s as Michigan did. I still can’t believe we had so many odd man rushes Thursday. If Portillo doesn’t slam the door on that third goal, we would’ve routed them. It will take our most complete game yet, but I think we are playing our best hockey so there is another gear.

On the ground, Minnesota fans seems extremely confident that they will run us out of the building. MNStateofHockey will remind us how much he respects us and what Motzko said yesterday (he also said MN was underdogs to BU lol) but that is not the general consensus from the Gopher fans.

I can’t wait to see all the bobcat gold and for every non Big 10 fan to be rooting for us (especially our NoDak friends). Let’s soak it in while knowing we belong and will continue to regardless of the result.

Also Lahey is in Tampa (!!)

Go BOBCATS

Not sure where you’re reading that Gopher fans think that they’re going to run away with it. I know this is the best Gopher team I’ve watched in my viewing lifetime, but Q is clearly a great team themselves. They play the type of game Minnesota has struggled against in the past, especially when they get ahead. I think my Gophers win 4-2 with an ENG, but any Gopher fan who thinks this game is in the bag is a damned fool. Could easily go either way today.

Without President Lahey and Jack McDonald, we would never be in this position. They had a vision 25 years ago and here we are, living and enjoying that vision.

If anything, let's win it for those two!

Let's Go Bobcats!

Not reading it, I’m hearing it first hand
