Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018 Off-Season

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018 Off-Season

I wouldn't assume its a Colgate home at all. Looks like it is a straight non conference game. In 2012-13 they played Colgate 3 times in the regular season. In Hamden and in Hamilton and a non conference game on Cape Cod. This looks to be something similar.

Correct, but I think this will be a home game for 'Gate meaning we won't lose a game at the Bank like we did with the Freedom Four in Ireland.

It's not a conference game, unlike what they did with the Friendship Four, so it could very well be truly neutral, and then they toss a coin for who gets last change.

I agree with this. Definitely a non conference game.

There is still, though, the consideration for "home game" in terms of both last change and weighted RatingsPI. If one team is hosting, they have the "advantage" of a RatingsPI home game and the last change. However if it's neutral, it's weighted the same for both teams, and then there's a coin toss or some other mutual agreement (guessing the former, unless this game is going to happen again next year).

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018 Off-Season

So, Looking at the games and locations, and not counting the PEI exhibition, we'll have 16 home, 17 away and one neutral for our 34 games?

11 ECAC home
Uconn
AIC
UMass
Holy Cross
BC

159 days until Oct 1st!

I've been thinking about this... I may have mis-heard in regards to AIC. Could very well be 2 @ home. Riga was talking faster than I could write! :o

I could see this as a home and home now that they are playing at the Mass Mutual Center. If AIC was still playing at the Olympia then no way QU goes there. But going on the road to Atlantic Hockey teams is different today than 5 years ago with many playing in much better facilities today.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018 Off-Season

I've heard that there are up to 5 guys not going to return for next season (aka underclassmen)

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018 Off-Season

We lost 6 to graduation, another 5 puts us down 11. Do we have that many ready in the pipeline?

Yup......I am expecting a incoming class of 12 players. They accelerated Ethan De Jong (who is ready by the way) and TJ Friedmann. All signs point to Peter Diliberatore coming in a a true freshman on defense from prep hockey. I haven't got all of the names of the players that were cut so the spreadsheet is not fully updated yet.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2018 Off-Season

I did not know you could cut a someone from the team other than for certain things such as academic reasons etc. How will this affect scholarship distribution i.e. if you cut do they loose their scholarship or does it go into a pool to be offered to the incoming class. My fear about this is that we may have a good or great incoming class but will we now have a cycle where every 4 years we have a mass exodus of 12 players as they graduate.

It'll even out over time, whether due to redshirt injury, signing a professional contract, or other form of attrition. Scholarship's up to the school, but remember that the NLI (which governs receipt of an athletic scholarship) is a one-year contract.

We lost 12 or 13 back in 2013 and managed to be ok for a few years. It's not how many you lose, it's the quality of those coming in that matters most. Turnover is part of the college game.

Trust me they need to clear out some of the players they have on the roster currently. They just really can't play. While this is still NCAA hockey at times you have to run this as a business because hockey is a money making sport at Quinnipiac and these cuts are a business decision.

I'm not arguing that at all. Just pointing out we've been down this road before. As long as we've got decent recruits ready, the number lost doesn't matter.
