Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

What the final 15 minutes showed me last night was that if QU wants to take over a game, they can and WILL do so.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Slump?

Unbeaten in eight, one loss in twenty-six, number one in the polls, number one in PairWise...

I like that attitude a lot. I think they haven't played well since Yale. I know they have some shutout wins in that stretch from Yale till now, but I don' think they've played that well in those games. May Union is an exception, but that's it. I think I remember people saying that first Princeton game was less about how good QU was and more about how bad Princeton looked that night. Those who were there can attest to that more. I thought Rand's comments about the boys faking hunger and drive would wake them up. I thought a loss to Dartmouth would wake them up. Maybe a 6 goal third wok them up.

they looked quite good against RPI.

if we can stop giving up so many odd man rushes, we know we've got big time players making plays late in games.

I'd argue that this run of ties and come backs is the slump.

Maybe. I'm concerned it's the precursor to a slump. The good news is, this team dominates possession at a level that keeps these bumps a little smaller. So maybe you're right.

For me that's the most impressive part about this group. What they did to Harvard earlier this month was remarkable. They just did whatever they wanted in that first period, then let off the gas until late in the third period. It was super-impressive.

And that's why, even if QU does slump in the coming weeks, I don't think it will be a fatal thing for the season. This group is too talented, and dominates possession at too high a rate, to stay down for long.

(And yes, I realize how ridiculous it is to be talking about a slump when the team has one loss all season, but expectations change when you're having a season like this, when the potential is there to do something very special).

This team is not unbeatable and they 100% need a lot of work before the post-season. But one thing that you cannot, and I repeat CANNOT, teach is resilience. This team has shown a lot more character traits that mean way more than talent, even though we are not short on talent. One thing is for sure, under pressure this team is calm, cool, and collected. These three things spell danger for tournaments/post-seasons, I am looking forward to it!

Top 5 teams in order you would like to get on the QU schedule
I'll start
ND
Minn
BC
Michigan
Michigan State

Thinking beyond recent performance by these other schools but more historic significance

I'd like to see those big time players make the plays EARLIER in the games. My heart can't take many more of these dramatic comebacks. ;)

Another huge weekend at the Bank! A reeling Cornell comes to town tonight having gone winless in their last six. The boys will need to take care of business from the start. While their 3rd period heroics have been amazing, it'll catch up with them sooner or later. My hope is that they've settled back into a routine on campus and can focus on their game plan and play to their identity.

Go Q!

Just curious as to what you Bobcat fans think of St Cloud. I know they played you guys way back in October and you swept them in your rink which is largely why you are still ahead of them in the pairwise. I think they were missing a key cog in their potent power play as Ethan Prow was hurt.

Great team. Awesome power play. Q did outplay them in 4 or 5 of the 6 periods in October, but at times it felt like we were trying to kill a penalty at even strength. Lindgren is a stud. Would love to see you guys again in Tampa.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

I was a little confused about who the refs let out of the box after Q's 4 on 3 goal in the 2nd period. Upon further review (see "minor penalty termination" section HERE), they technically got this one right. I think it is a confusing and stupid rule and can get a little muddy if the Bobcats penalty expired before the goal and they scored on a 5 on 3 - which player is it on Cornell that "caused them to be shorthanded?" Why not clarify and just go with "First in, First out"? Dog knows that ECAC refs aren't the most skilled individuals and could benefit from a simplified rule.

SCSU did jump Q in RPI tonight. Of course you're still winning the Pairwise comparison 2-1 thanks to the sweep.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Not sure what happened last night... they played well and seemed to have the advantage all night. I'll take the tie but they really left a point out there.

Tonight will be another tough one. I believe Colgate is a much better team than their record shows. They came back to beat Princeton last night so their confidence will be up. We need to hunker down and play a good, solid, and complete game.

Go Q!

Well played game by both teams tonight. The officiating was horrendous. Nice win for the Bobcats. I would have rather they done more scoring earlier in the game but they did what they needed to do. They could have put the game away during the first 5-on-3 but in the end they it didn't matter. Great tune up for a tough 4 games on the road.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

Can't go too crazy given the results this weekend, but even strength scoring is becoming a little bit of a concern for me. This weekend, they relied quite heavily on power play opportunities for scoring. Even against Dartmouth, power play goals got them back in the game. Of course, one could say that PP opportunities are a result of good work at even strength. Absolutely true, but just noticed they seem to be a little snake bitten at even strength. That off my chest, any unbeaten weekend in the ECAC is a good weekend.

Officiating - my god. What is happening in the ECAC? I do not know what they trying to prove with this face off nonsense and McDonald is just killing me. What is crazy is I truly believe that he has the ability to be a very, very good referee but something is preventing him from going to that level. Is it arrogance? Ignorance? Not sure. What is scary is that he seems to work with a lot of younger and newer officials - meaning he is like their trainer.... *shutter*

Incompetence. Quite possible the worst ref ever. Absolutely no consistency in any of his calls. Seems he always needs to be the center of attention. I guess that's what happens when you're related to Paul Stewart.

The real problem is there's absolutely no accountability whatsoever. His non-call on the disallowed Q goal was atrocious. Goal light goes on, he blows the whistle making no call either way, skates to the back of the net, peeks in, then signals "no goal" making it impossible to overturn it on review (which wasn't conclusive).
