Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

I actually like them. Every time I listen to announcers on another teams feed I find myself missing our guy's.

Tonight sounded like a pretty crazy game. I kind of wish I paid the $10 to watch the UCONN video feed. Although I bet the first period would have been much worse to watch than listen to.
Happy to see Shiplo get some ice time and his first goal tonight.
It's been a busy week. Hopefully two day's rest will be enough for them to be at their best this weekend against two formidable opponents.

You like them because they root for us over the radio. When it comes to what a broadcaster should be doing (being neutral and unbiased) they are HORRENDOUS. Takes a real professional to be unbiased to the people signing his checks and unfortunately Bill and Kotsy are not this. Like Larson said, they say the same **** thing over and over. They don't bring anything to the table anymore. I know plenty of Quinnipiac alums who would be a fantastic, neutral broadcaster (couple of them are on this forum ;) ).

I disagreed with Rand resting Garteig tonight. When you are on a winning streak you dont take your goalie out. Garteig faces the least amount of shots out of every regular goalie in the ECAC, he doesn't need rest. How did Rand expect Lawrence to play? Kid hasn't seen a live game puck since the exhibition and has watched Garteig not lose a game all year, of course he was nervous.

Disagree all you want but Rand (and the team) need to know Lawrence is capable if Garts needs a rest or gets injured. It's still early and there's a lot of season left.

Do you think Rand or the team cares about the unbeaten streak? I'm sure they'll trade an unbeaten streak for a national championship each and every day. As fans, we're spoiled and want to team to go unbeaten/untied but the coaches can't think like that. They're focused on the big picture for certain.

To not give Sean a chance in a game like last night is crazy. In reality, if we don't take that early penalty and give up the PPG, I think Lawrence plays a much different , and better, game. Sure the kid was nervous but this is D-I hockey. It's not his first rodeo either. I'll even go so far as to say if Lawrence stayed in last night we still win that game. We'll probably even see him again at UMass or maybe Maine.

Now... why Rand didn't dress Hilbrich last night is beyond me! :p ;)

I agree that it is good to get Lawrence some experience. However, it is interesting to consider the potential impact to the mindset of the boys when coach decides not to start your top guy. It is possible that is part of the reason they came out flat. I also agree that they still would have settled in and probably won that game with Lawrence in there.

I think we should go with Tim Clifton at goalie - he made a nice save last night!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats 2015-16 - Another journey begins...

I was just going through some stats and I just noticed that Q has only given up one goal this season in the 3rd and that was the stupid 6v3 against Harvard. That is a really important stat especially for postseason if we can keep up our 3rd domination.

Also, I actually called the Garts rest yesterday. i thought it was smart to put him in to start the 2nd, a little surprised they did it still. The team definitely rallies around Garts and that was very apparent last night. The CHN article touches upon this and Garts is obviously the center/heart of the team. And if anyone knows hockey it's teams that get behind their goalie that do the special things. I get excited every time Rand talks... I bet the kids do the same in the pregame talks.

Not sure I agree... they started to take control midway through the first. Once they started skating it was only a matter of time.

Yes, Garts is the backbone but I'm sure everyone of those guys plays just as hard in front of Lawrence.

Again, Rand knows what he's doing when it comes to his goalies, and the team as a whole. As long as the guys buy in (which is obvious they have) they can overcome anything.

Mark,
Nice picture of you and Luke at the game last night at the Hartford Courant digital edition. Judging by the looks on your faces UConn must have been ahead at the time.

The team did start skating well because they were down 2 goals not because Lawrence was on the ice. And I did not once say the team wouldn't play just as well in front of Lawrence. What I meant in my statement was that the team came out way differently when Garts was put in goal. Rand does know what he is doing and that is why he put in Garts and didn't leave in Lawrence, maybe because he knows the team plays differently with him between the pipes. It also doesn't help that Lawrence was WAY out of position on the two goals scored. The defense was in the right spots in front but Lawrence allowed himself to get screened, specifically the first goal. Not saying he isn't a good goalie or that the team doesn't play hard for him, just saying they play differently in front of Garts because of confidence in him.

Cool! I can't get to the digital edition but I found one of he and I clapping in the photo gallery at courant.com.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree. In my opinion, they turned things around long before the 1st period ended.

Yes, Garteig does give them a higher level of confidence, but at the end of the day, Rand and the team need to know that there's a capable backup if ever needed. Last night was not good to Lawrence but I'm sure he'll be ready the next time he's called.

Anyone remember Dan Clarkes start at Yale a few years back (08 or 09 maybe?)? The kid was so nervous he was tossing his lunch before the game. I think he lasted less than half a period until relieved by Bud Fisher. But he bounced back and went on to become a decent Bobcat netminder.

And let's be honest here... nobody knows what Rand's thinking. He keeps everything very close to the vest. While that's frustrating to many, there's no disputing his success.

It's all good. We're all here for the same reason! ;)

Agree with you here. And I did not mean to come across as attacking your comments.

Hey no problem. I wasn't taking it as an attack. Admittedly, I can get a wee bit passionate about my Bobcats. ;)

Shel... when we scored our 1st goal I was reaching for the flag! Did it a couple of times during the course of the game!

That's awesome news. A big boy on the back end and local too! Good for him, good for us!

More on Joe O'Connor

6'2 214 1996 DOB out of Hamden, CT. Playing out in the AJHL for the Brooks Bandits. 6 goals and 14 assists in 17 games. I wonder if he is coming next season or the season after as the backend is pretty deep unless Rand is expecting early departures in Toews and Connor Clifton because Brogan Rafferty is also committed as a Dman and he is a 1995 DOB and a sure bet to come next year once he signs his LOI.

I have one bone to pick with that article. Jesse does not use the words "intangible aspect" nor would he know how to use that in the proper context. BUTTTTT these two are my favorite kids growing up, I used to be their gym buddy in High School to make sure they never killed anyone. Love them!
