Re:

Hey friends. First time posting. I will try and see if I can offer any useful information to your posts. Seems like you guys are very knowledgeable, so I doubt can offer anything of substance!

Welcome Lax...good to have some new blood around these parts. Hope to see you at the games this weekend!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Man, you are fast! Union and RPI will be coming in hot after bouncing # 1 yale (It pains me to say that) last week
I may have to make an appearance. We've been on a nice little run since the break. Let's keep it rolling!!

Posted a poll for ECAC's top freshman. You can vote more than once if you feel more than one player warrants a vote...every vote counts!

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Quick question. This run of games is going to test us. RPI, Union, Dartmouth, Yale. What would you be happy with - realistically? 3 of the 4 at home.

Most definitely...throwing in the Dartmouth one game weekend that is sandwiched in between those series we play teams currently ranked 6 of our final 7 (#9 RPI twice, #11 Union twice, #3 Yale, #17 Dartmouth) games. Yikes. Talk about a back loaded schedule! If we could take 4 of 7 out of the final 7 I think we secure home ice. If we lose any more than three of those...we could be in trouble.

Posted Earler by Hockeyguy:

Nuata (Goalie) - NJ Hitman (EJHL)- 6 foot 6 inches, 235 lbs. This kid is huge and very good. Look him up on the EJHL website. QU is getting a real goalie with this kid. He is going to push whatever starter is there to keep there job.

This make me happy. With the young talent we have backed by a nice goalie competiton - this means great things for next year!! OK, maybe I should focus on this year. I need to slow down.

Welcome! Wonger's the knowledgeable one, I'm the good looking one! ;)

Don't worry... anything you can offer is better than nothing! It's been a little lonely in here this year.

I don't mean to burst the bubble on your first contribution but according to the article, Nuata won't be able to play until 2012.
Nauta came to the Hitmen from the QMJHL thus he will have to sit out the 2011-2012 ECAC season but will be eligible for the 2012-2013 season.
I will admit I share your enthusiasm about the future though! ;)

Re:

I have a dirty monitor on my laptop and it has a speck of something on it when I looked at the quote above your post I thought it said 5' 6" and 235 lbs. and I'm thinking you got some short, fat, kid and was wondering how in blazes he could be so good? I've often wondered (joking aside) if you found someone who albeit out of shape but had coordination and was athletic that weighed about 350 lbs. and stuck him in goal what would happen?? I mean with equipment on someone like that would take up the whole net!!!!!!

Hey, Mike - except for having coordination, I thought you were talking about me. :D

Don't worry guys (because I know you grow worried when you don't hear from me for weeks at a time ;)). As always, I'm still lurking.

Good to see for how erratic this season has played out that QU is still a 4 game hot streak from the top 4 in the league. Obviously that's easier said than done. It would be nice though to see a Rand team actually catch fire at the end of the season as opposed to the beginning or middle of it. I think a solid end of the season streak hasn't happened since 06 or 07.

Not trying to pry or get your team in trouble, but if Nuata came from the Q (which is a major junior league), how is he eligible to play NCAA hockey at all?

I think that is why he has to sit one year and is not comming dirctly in as a freshman in 2011.

That will make him eligable

I think there is a misunderstanding of my concern. My concern is behind the fact that the Major Junior leagues are considered professional leagues in the eyes of the NCAA. It's not like he's transferring from another school or went to play in an amateur junior league (i.e. USHL, BCHL, etc.) for a year.

Re: Rand has 1 more year

Re: Rand has 1 more year

Looks like he played 4 games in major juniors in 2008-2009

Player Name GP Min GA GAA W L T Svs Pct EN SO

John Nauta 4 150 9 3.59 1 1 0 68 0.883 0 0

Maybe the short period on the team does not DQ him?

Re: Rand has 1 more year

Re: Rand has 1 more year

College Hockey Inc. has been pushing the NCAA to relax the regulations on eligibility for kids who go to major juniors to come and play college hockey if they fall under certain criteria. I wasn't aware they had actually gotten anywhere with that effort, but maybe this is an early indication that they have made some progress. Maybe for whatever reason he wasn't compensated for those games, so they don't count as professional games? Amateur tryout agreement or something?

I was always under the impression that if it were a tryout, it would not make him eligible to count as a major junior player. So if this is the case, he should be in the clear. Reading everything I have about Nuata, this issue hasn't seemed to even be considered and I highly doubt they'd go through the whole process and have him sit out a year if he'd only be deemed ineligible afterwards. There is probably some loop hole and we'll gladly take it. Thanks for all your concern though ;)

I did seem to find an article that stats "As such, the rule of thumb is once you play a major junior game, you are ineligible for college hockey. There is a waiver process and sometimes a player may forfeit one season instead of four, but the line is drawn."

So we may be seeing Nauta come in as a Sophomore forfeiting one of his four years.

Here is the whole article...some interesting college education and college game vs. grant education and major junior hockey.

Re: Quinnipiac Bobcats '10-'11

Haha...this is already seeming like the same kind of witch hunt that Cahill went through and this kid isn't even enrolled yet.

What did I start...

Plus, I'd hate to see a team have to forfeit games because of ineligible players, because that's no fun for the game. Might as well make sure it's all on the up and up. ;)
