Quarterfinal: UWSP at Adrian

So am I. But it was what it was, and I'm not going to make excuses. It happened.

Thanks for the information. Hard to tell from that exactly what happened. I'm sure it will be fodder for those who call the Bulldogs undisciplined, etc

Well, believe it or not, our discipline has been much improved this year. Our PIMs were down significantly going into tonight, but that pretty much got shot to hell this evening.

I've said what I needed to say in the Adrian thread. My team is now done, so for the most part I'm going to get out of here.

Re: Quarterfinal: UWSP at Adrian

I wouldn't call the Bulldogs undisciplined. But I will go out on a strong limb and say that discipline they have starts with the coach. He lost his cool and does so often. It resonates with the players when emotions get high. I don't think anyone would have done any of it if the Point player didn't blatently go for an elbow in a game that they already had secured. But the way the coach reacts under pressure is a bad example for the guys. I probably would act the same way, and what happened is what it is, and I've seen worse. Not the end of the world, just the season. Playoff hockey. Nothing like it.

I didn't see an elbow, I saw a good clean hit along the boards and then the Point kid gets pummeled by 3 Adrian players.

That's embarrassing. 43 is a cheapshot goon. And then 5 with the nice leg trip take down. Classy. I'd look up their names but that crap isn't even worth the time. If Adrian has any brass marbles, those players sit next season for a few games. Absolutely disgusting. (And if they're seniors, dont let the door hit you on the way out). It's one thing to be upset losing, it's another to go all MMA on someone for a legal (wasn't even overly aggressive IMO). Wow.

Coach loses his mind, clean hit turns into a sh*t show. Not the way to end a season...and not what you want a great season to be remembered for....the AD has his hands full.....

Re: Quarterfinal: UWSP at Adrian

Pathetic display by that trio at the end. As talented as that team was, that display at the end of the game summarizes the barriers Adrian hockey needs to overcome. I'm tempted to say any NCHA awards any of those three earned this year should be revoked.

Re: Quarterfinal: UWSP at Adrian

It starts with the coach who is one of the most volatile guys I've seen behind the bench in a long time. Winning or losing the guy can go overboard at some little infraction. I've seen him throw a clipboard several times now; once was for an icing that wasn't called if memory serves. The players feel this is acceptable and goonism should not be tolerated. They have a great team but I'm happy that style was not rewarded by the hockey gods.

I've watched and rewatched that a half dozen times. It was an unnecessary hit leading with his elbow. He didn't do any damage and it wasn't really elbowing, no. The camera angle was great. But it looked like an elbow to the hot heads that retaliated. It was also done with a few seconds left in the game, and they were leading by 2 goals. What the few Adrian players did was totally wrong. But so was that hit.

This exactly.

If you watch it again, watch the faceoff just before the incident. #10 for Stevens Point taps down on Adrian #43 stick and 43 responds by swinging his stick at the player and slashes his stick. It's at that point that he is ready to start something no matter what #10 does. That elbow never comes near being high!! Also #5 for Adrian doesn't even actually respond to the hit being high at all. He just turns and then #43 comes flying in

Re: Quarterfinal: UWSP at Adrian

I did the Public Address announcing for the NYS 16U tournament this weekend at Potsdam State. I sat with Supervisor of Officials all weekend and showed them this video this afternoon. They pretty much said it was disgusting. However the conversation turned from what we personally witnessed all weekend. Kids, I mean literally kids were dropping F bombs all weekend to each other like it was their job. In fact the last semi final of the morning took a turn for the worse as things got ugly. It took the officials 2.5 hours to finish the paperwork. That being said, I honestly think there is a serious problem with a lack of respect for opponents in the game today.
This incident is ugly but Potsdam has had its moments as all programs have over the years. Learn from it and hope the culture changes moving forward. See Buffalo State....

Re: Quarterfinal: UWSP at Adrian

You might want to go back to 2:23:20 to see where the entire incident started. Do you want your kid playing for that display? Every team is a reflection of it's leader. I saw the same thing in De Pere and the antics of a few players after the horn...in a win no less. This group will always be seeking their first championship as long as the leadership lacks composure. Once their leader makes the conscious decision to be a controlled, disciplined commander, then this talent will produce it's first national championship. I'm guessing he will have learned that by 2016-17 if given another opportunity. Some scriptural leadership advise: "He caused the storm to be still, so that the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad because they were quiet. So he guided them to their desired haven." ~ Psalm 107:29-30

It's funny to see all the St. Norberts fans chime in on what happened. Something tells me they wouldn't be bothering if that had been Bethel instead of Adrian. Not a word about the goonish slash on norberts by augsburg that happened right in front of me last night, but lots of talk about Adrian. Makes sense? Which bible verse covers that sort of cognitive dissonance?

So he led with an elbow but it wasn't really elbowing, and a legal hit was totally wrong. Is that like saying that daveo led with emotion but since his post was sadly comical it wasn't really blind emotion, and that while a legal post it was still utterly stupid?

Bethel? Your point is irrelevant once you start throwing in variables to fit your agenda.
Seems like SNC fans are sticking up for little brother.

I saw nothing wrong with Point playing hard to the final buzzer....

Bethel? Did SNC play Bethel 3 times this year? Or last year? Or the year before? How is that SNC/Augsburg rivalry shaping up (one game since 2012)? Did you see anything as egregious in the SNC/Augsburg match as the contempt at the end of the Adrian game that mandates a level of discussion more than what you saw at Adrian? We know Adrian. We have a rivalry with Adrian. Most of us who have seen the Adrian/SNC games at the CCC have had first hand observations of the lack of discipline on the bench that translates onto the ice. I won't go so far as to say that SNC players are choir boys; however, there is a vast difference in the level of maturity between the two benches. I understand that kids are emotional and that competition can become emotional, but I have seen Adrian player's emotions go beyond humility in defeat or grace in victory. If anything, they can grow from some of the wisdom spoken here.

Also, I have no ties to SNC, other than going to a few games per year. I also go to some UWGB basketball games and Gambler games. I just support my local community. I try to catch the more competitive ones, so Adrian is always a good weekend for me. And, I was not at the Augsburg game. I do check in on this thread come March to see what's happening as the season winds down. I saw mention of the Adrian/Point game and checked out the youtube feed...only, I couldn't line up the exact time and caught the coach throwing his clipboard and yelling f-bombs at the ref just moments before the melee. To me, it was just another example of what I observed in De Pere and the players response to the coach's actions. It all trickles down.

Anyone trying to say that the hit by Point was an 'elbow' or 'dirty' is absurd. Literally can't see anything wrong with that. Three players were way out of line, watch 5 just rip off the guys mask, throw him to the ice and then throw in a punch to the next nearest Point guy who is already scrapping with some other Adrian goon. I get the frustration, but that is having no respect for the game and putting people at risk.

I'll tell you one thing, I know a few coaches in the division that would have given the Adrian coach an earful for that display.
