Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Looks like Swedish defenseman Carl Ehrnberg didn't make it to the team as he is NOT listed on the roster. Another defenseman that Leaman has recruited that didn't last at PC.

Thank you for sharing. Makes perfect sense. It's one thing to go to school across the country and feel homesick but to leave home to attend school in another country must have been a lot. I wish the kid well.

Played 51 games in the USHL last year so not like this was his first time away from home.

No it wasn't but he was away from home for more than enough time to figure out that being over here wasn't doing it for him. I'm sure he had enough time to miss family and friends and weigh the benefits of playing overseas as opposed to playing closer to home. Home won. Good for him.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Sorry I meant to say cake walk. There is no way they lose to AIC on opening night at home. You can take that to the bank. Hopefully the players realize that there is no way they should lose this game and they should be disgusted with themselves if the #5 team in the country loses out of the gate to a middle of the pack AHC team.

UML. Sacred Heart.

That's the game that leaped to mind.

Could the Friars lose on Sat? Sure. Would it go down as one of the worse losses in the program's history? ABSOLUTELY! The Friars are ranked in the top 5 in the country to begin the season, projected to finish in the top three of HE and AIC isn't ranked in the top 5 of their conference. Also consider that it is opening night at home and I would be shocked if the Friars don't beat AIC on Saturday night. Just saying...

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

How about RIT beating the friars at Schneider last December.

PC beat RIT the night before 8-3 and lost the next night 4-0. Only one of three home losses last season.

Didn't the 2013-2014 team lost to Atlantic Hockey League member UConn at home...another bad loss! There are plenty of bad losses under Nate and AIC is much improved since the last time they came to Providence. Do I expect AIC to win? No, but they are a better squad now.

The situations were similar - highly thought of team, Atlantic Hockey opponent.
I mean, I assume we're going to beat AIC, but weirder things happen

Thread title could probably be updated.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Pretty poor treatment for season tix holders, again. One ditty bag and one mug / ticket. No T-shirt. No pin. No hat. And still no parking.

I was never notified of a bag or cup.

Me either. I got tickets in an envelope. I went to transfer my tickets to a dear friend who was bringing children for Saturday night's game and the ticket office managed to bleep up the ticket transfer that they were to leave at will call for them. It's infuriating because I can't imagine they have these ticketing issues with the basketball team. I would have done it online but I know you'll find this as a shock, the capability wasn't there because they were having a problem with their system. It's very hard to take Providence College seriously as an athletic department when they always make major fubars on the simplest things. Driscoll gets so much credit and I think he is average at best as an athletic director. So many simple things are missed on his watch but he puts that he's a hockey guy in his bio so we're all supposed to give him kudos. It's sad.

Well, we won. Not going away but a win is a win.

I'd blanked on why UML losing to SHU was so earthshaking - Lowell was #1 in the country and the Pioneers had 2 wins the prior season. AIC is probably a much better team in comparison.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Nate in his postgame comments was very happy with the freshmen...I thought O'Brien looked like he played in high school last year as he was holding onto the puck way too much while Dugan was passing too much. I was very surprised with how good Thompson was while Callahan was a no-show.

Greg Prinz seemed faster and much better.

Now the disappointments...Davis Bunz took a terrible angle leading to the odd man rush for the AIC goal. You are now an upper classman and need to be better. Did Bjorkqvist even play? He was a no-show and that is a major concern.

Re: Providence Off season Thread 2018: Insert Clever Title Here

Expected win to start the season now the real competition begins. Miami will be a tough game on Friday and hopefully the Friars make a good showing against N.D. on Saturday. Good weekend of hockey ahead for the Friars this weekend.
