Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

"I still think it looks real bad to win your conference, then drop a Quarterfinal series on your own ice to the 12th seeded team in the ECAC.

UNH does it all the time.

Ever been to SLU? Their arena is really old but still looks good unless you think you have to play at the Dunk. Merrimac made some improvements but IMO it still does not measure up to Schneider. I think this is overblown by many. There are improvements approved (not planned) for Schneider along with the adjoining track complex. this was presented a few months ago and I have drawings for the general plans that were sent to me.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

HM I saw that "bad" Colgate team at the end of the season. They were the best dang 12th place team I have ever seen. They really played like a top four seed at the end of the year.

I am really surprisd Leaman would leave the gig he has now. He has done a nice job there and has started to make some national noise.

Why not? He'd have 18 more scholarships than he has at the gig he has now.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Haha, yes, you are right -- CAV is the winner (and not Mike Cavanagh, clearly lol!).

I always felt right from the start that PC should go after a current coach. The Penrose winner will do nicely, thank you very much ;)

If you're going to throw a dart, get the spelling of the name right, it's Cavanaugh. Ignorance is bliss.

It was just a joke, man. Didn't realize pointing out the fact that CavanAUGH (happy now?) was reportedly a finalist at several different jobs -- Brown, Merrimack, PC -- and didn't get any of them was a "dart". Are you this sensitive in real life too?

possibly the funniest thing you've ever posted hokydad....well done.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

I think that's the only funny thing Hokydad has ever posted ;)

Just kidding man, that actually made me laugh. :)

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Good to see Joe Exter ack on for another year with the USA Junior team.

While that is certainly true, there is something about building a program to the point where it makes the national tournament with some potential upside to go to a program that will be years away from getting back to that point. At some level, I would think a coach would like to enjoy the fruits of his labor, even if there are no scholarships.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Is there any time table for the improvements ?

Is there a time table for hiring the coach? lol. I don't get it -- if it's Leaman, it should've happened by now, no? Instead it's dragging into another week....makes you wonder.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Nate Leaman accepted the job.....take it to the bank.

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Why do you all want Leaman so bad? Is it because he just one coach of the year? That means nothing. The guy is recruiting in a league that is not that strong and is not going after the caliber of player teams in the Hockey East are? Dave Quinn has the experience coaching and recruiting in the Hockey East. He has been a coach of the US under 18 team and has worked on the US Development team. If we want to get back to competing level then you are going to need someone who is going to go out there and pull in the top level players. I do not see Leaman being able to do that. I think everyone is being blinded by the fact that his team made the NCAA and was first in the ECAC. Look past that and really think hard about who has more upside. Please don't throw out the fact he recruited at a place with no scholarships...there has to be more than.

Maybe David Quinn was offered the job first, or at least in discussions for it, and his contract demands were too high...

Bingo

Something tells me between Quinn and Leaman, assuming the school was high on both of them, that the decision ultimately came down to money.

I'm not sure there's been a big push one way or the other from most here about Leaman over Quinn. Ironically there seemed to be more actual cheerleading for Rick Bennett than either of them!

You make a fair point, though I don't think you can knock Leaman until he proves whether he can do it or not. I do agree with you that I think winning at Union in a conference like the ECAC where you can win 25 games by not scheduling anyone -- and if you look at Union's out of conference schedule, it's unbelievably weak -- does not necessarily mean it'll translate to him recruiting and winning in Hockey East. That said, we're going to find out one way or the other if he gets the job. I'm certainly willing to give him a chance if he's hired...though I hope the matter didn't come down strictly to dollars in terms of who got the job (yet that's the reality of where PC is at right now).

Re: Providence College Summer 2011: The Hockey Guy Adventures

Quinn is still playing and really could not say he will leave after X game......there is a proper way to say good bye and I hope that is what is happening.....his team is up 3-1 in the Calder Cup playoffs so it could go on for a while......the longer it takes the more it looks like Quinn
