Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Rumor has it that there may be some violations regarding practices during exam week. Can anyone confirm?

Don't believe that is an NCAA rule (hey I been wrong before)...it would be a university rule that was violated (if so)

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Wayyyyyy too much time on the PK in the second.

The AHC teams play tough against the friars. Needed some big saves by Hawkey.

Robert Morris is a strong team from Atlantic. Last year, RMU won that tourney with BC, Ferris State, and Quinnipiac there. Also, Air Force played pretty well in the Providence Regional last year. Still don’t get how PC was so flat on Saturday vs RIT.

Re: Providence College regrouping and on to St. Paul

Friars are guilty of too many offensive zone and neutral zone penalties. Principal culprits are Conway. Kavannaugh, and Sukarmaran.

Mayor's Cup game tonight at Schneider. Brown is a better team this year than last, expect a dog fight. Need to close out the OOC with a win to keep PWR where it is (a win does nothing in going up but will be a killer if lose).

Don't expect a big crowd with no students, the bball guys are playing at the Dunk appx same time and game is on local Cox network.

This was the only night it the game could be played? Seriously??? PC does not give a rat's *** about hockey. PC Hoop is king and it's a joke the way Athletics treats the scheduling of games. I'm out on BI so I can't go tonight with school tomorrow but the fact that PC scheduled both hockey and hoop for the same night is ridiculous. Marquette at the Dunk=far less fans at Schneider tonight.

Brown has a hoops game tonight too. Both athletic departments really screwed this one up. Is there a reason it couldn't have been played on Friday, which both teams have off?? I usually try my best to make the Mayor's Cup every year, but I work north of Boston and there's just no way I'm braving rush hour traffic on a Wednesday to get down to Schneider.

Do not bring your logic here.

I guess we're not alone in having an Athletic Department that makes bizarre decisions on a whim.

Well, Jack Hayes is a PC alum, after all! ;)

Friars played an excellent hockey game, Superb D and PK.

Indeed. Clearly the better team, though it pains me to see how poorly coached Brown is. The talent disparity between the programs certainly exists, but it’s not wide enough to account for back-to-back demolitions. That falls on the Brown coaching staff. It’s sad that this series has become so one-sided.

PC was very passive in this game...way too much passing and not enough shooting. PC had a 3 on 1 tonight and didn't even get a shot off. Guys need to shoot more when in high scoring areas and stop with making the cutesy pass all the time.

PC had 80 shot attempts. Brown had 33

Maybe should of had 100...they passed up several scoring chances to make passes.

Shooting attempts is a fantastic number but I rather see the shot get through as they miss the net a TON and the power play was atrocious last night. Don’t let the stats fool you...

I actually don’t think (god help me) Zlax is out of bounds here. I kind had that same thought in first 2 periods where they let Brown hang around being up 2-0 (and the 2nd goal was ridiculous as Brown refused to try to gain possession to stop play on a DP) yet puck possession was ridiculously in PC’s favor. Even the 3rd it was like in football you leave the defense on the field too long it will break but the looks were there and they were taking them.

Hard to judge really off 3 games since XMas and RIT just before

But defense looks better, they were layering/covering up better

Foley has made Conger look better, maybe even indoctrinate him on the 3rd line having Foley as if he was a top 6.

Printz looks better mixed in on top 2 line. We’ll see what he does vs stiffer competition.

Going back to RIT. Conway is on his best goal scoring streak since coming to PC. Again how will he do vs better competion.

It should also be clear without blow away speed by Brown the defense is helped immeasurably because Desharnais can play like a top 4, use a little muscle, his long reach and not worry about footwork. Bunz looked comfortable too and again it’s weaker competition but he seems an upgrade on Baum and better defensively the Ryzcek just not the offensive threat which is missing even if Mirageas has covered some of what Florentino/Walman provided.

I mean, 80 shots attempts is just about as good as it gets. PC was controlling the pace of the game after the first five or so minutes, when Brown had its only good spell of possession. You can argue that they could've taken better quality shots, sure, but I don't think it's reasonable to expect more than 80 shots against any opponent.

Of course, when you're taking more quality shots, it almost always means you're holding onto the puck and waiting for the right angle, which will prompt people to wonder why you aren't shooting more. So it's kind of a catch-22. Personally, I'm a fan (stylistically) of what PC and others like Penn State tend to do, which is to whip pucks at the net constantly regardless of shot quality and rely on net presence to force the defense into uncomfortable situations.
