Providence College on the road to Tampa

This reminds me of something from a couple years ago. I think BC had a goal waved off at ND when they ruled the player batted the puck towards net so even though he got stick on it after that it didn't matter.

Now i have to see if there's a recap of that game.

So you can't bat the puck out of the air and then touch it with your own stick in that situation? I know you can't bat the puck in with your hand but what you are saying is interesting if true.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Maybe another BC fan can help me. I can't remember exactly why it was waved off but i remember thinking it was an absurd ruling.

found it. i still can't even explain it properly, it was that mind boggling. BC player knocked puck down with hand and played it over to someone else for a goal. was ruled no goal because the player either knocked the puck down with his hand towards the goalie first? or that it ticked the goalie's stick before the guy passed it over to the eventual goal scorer? it was something absolutely absurd if you saw it on tv. don't know if the ref interpreted the rule correctly or if the rule even still exists. they never even reviewed it.

I remember this... totally absurd.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Two big road games at the Gut this weekend. Will be interesting to see who Leaman has on the ice for these two, especially on defense. Will Florentino be back in the lineup at all? Will he dress 7 dmen again? What about Tait, will he be back in the lineup?

Lots of questions heading into this weekend with 4 big points to close the gap on UML, maybe, since UML is playing the mother UMASS program. In that case, could be just to stay at the same gap until have a chance to catch up with the games in hand.

Then have BC/BU so maybe chance to pick up points on both of them or one of them.

PC has legit only four "tough" Hockey East games left (UML and ND). If they only drop one of the other games, they will be in a very good position to possibly win Hockey East.

Anything less than four points this weekend has to be considered a major disappointment and the chances of winning Hockey East will be slim to none.

Game one in the books...3-1 Friars in a very chippy game especially late in the third. Power Play was not very good but defense was better. Ellis with some big stops as well.

Hopefully things will be a little cleaner tomorrow night...better officiating to keep things in control could help...

Who did they have?

6-3 final. No handshakes as the team's were trying to re-enact the PC/UNH melee from1998.

I heard a UVM coach threw a water bottle on the ice to get a game misconduct...That has to lead to a suspension.

I didn't watch the game so someone will have to share what the hell went on...

It was the head coach, he got a bench penalty as he felt his team was being handed too many penalties I guess...he then threw a bunch of water bottles on the ice and was kicked out. Vermont was called for 8 penalties on Friday and I think 6 last night including a major (Rufo also got hit with a major).

It was hard to tell watching the stream if all of them were legit penalties but Cats seemed to take a lot of extra shots at guys at the end of whistles.

Smart move by the officials to wave off the end of game handshakes. One of the Vermont brother combo was going crazy after the game taking a swipe at Saracino after the horn went off.

Friars got the 4 points to keep pace with UML and they are up next, Friday at Schneider, Saturday at Tsongas.

Lucky no one got hurt. Sneddon has to be suspended by Hickey East for that display. If you are going to suspend Jack for all his crazy trucks, this deserves it too.

Speaking of Jack Parker...
Please let's have a water bottle night next year when UVM is in town. That's pretty much what Maine did one year when Jackie did the same thing up at Alfond.

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

It is really a shame that sports have sunk this low, starting with Little League cheating and the intentional attempts to injure the opposition or officials by coaches is treated as a "No big deal". This is happening in High School and above, including the pros, makes me wonder just what are we teaching our youths today.......it is past the time for us to teach sportsmanship and that winning is not a life or death situation, The coach should get a suspension of some type but so should players who are running others into positions that could cause serious injuries in all sports not just hockey......I am not referring to the fights in the NHL as both players have chosen that route, the penalties there are good for now, but things like players going after others with nothing but hurt on their minds especially after the games are over and no one is ready for them.
Do we have to wait until a player or official is killed or severely injured to act ??? I hope not

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Same kid kicked off BU team. No respect for anyone. While in Ushl, not a single fight and always skated away with half shield. Now a cage, running people and yapping. Exhibit A of why D 1 is known as gladiator hockey. To much equipment, zero accountability from players, outside penalties. Look at the kid from u Maine, Joey diamond. Does he pull the same crap in pros?

Re: Providence College on the road to Tampa

Pretty quiet here with a big weekend series against the Riverhawks starting tomorrow at Schneider. Someone on the Lowell page provided his observations on the Riverhawks. Quite long but pretty detailed. Makes me wonder how they are 14-4-4 up to now. Certainly Boyle one of the big reasons.

Looking for big Friar fan turnout tomorrow including students who have to get used to hockey games again (it's 3 periods long not 2...:) )
