Providence College on the road to Tampa

Maybe he values an education as well, he will be in demand next year

Will be interesting if Hawkey comes back next year. Not playing as a drafted goalie could see him go somewhere to get playing time. The Canadiens can't be happy if he is going to be sitting on pine for two seasons.

For where?

He transfers he sits.

He can't go back to USHL or BCHL--he's aged out
Same with the major junior route -- he's overaged

The Canadians. He was a late round pick they want him to develop. Sign him now to an ELC and they may never get anything out of the signing

You do gain a lot from practice--just ask Nick Ellis

Maybe its time to end this thread as the road to Tampa has become a dead end for us and we are now getting ready for the new season

Mercyhurst had their backup goalie sign due to the fact he wasn't playing every game.

he's also a 22 year old freshman...

Yes again Zlax is comparing apples to oranges

1 as you note Mercyhurst goalie is a year older
2 he was a free agent and can negotiate with anyone, Hawkey only with Canadians
3 still saw significant playing time so he did prove something, Hawkey is coming back from major injury
4. The biggie: Mercyhurst as an Atlantic team has only has 14 scholarships, most 18 scholarship schools don't like to burn major money on goalies. I would venture if the Mercyhurst goalie was 2/4 he was doing well, Hawkey is at least darn close to a full boat
5. PC provides COA, Mercyhurst does not

And one is a lesser talent compared to a kid who is drafted. Is he better going to the AHL/ECHL and playing 40 games a year or play 5 next year at PC? I am pretty sure the Canadiens rather see someone playing 40 games.

I would venture a drafted goalie would get a better deal than an Atlantic Hockey goalie who went 7-7-3 with a GAA of 2.85. What do any of us really know?

Great move for Nick. So does PC move up Mollot-Hill to next season?

It's an interesting situation

If you bring him in you more or less match Ellis's scholly
You don't to get a viable backup you minimally need some of Ellis's scholly but the following year you potentially have 3 goalies on scholarship, more money then you want tied up in goalies and with the guys lined up a potential issue--Hawkey and his future replacement will fit into this puzzle too. You really don't want 3 goalies on scholarship at once. It killed Army when he had Gates Simpson and Beudry all at once

Where is the third goalie getting money? I would think they bring in a walk on as a third stringer again, did they have another commit besides Mollot Hill? Did I miss a goalie commit?

Plus these commits are only verbals until their sign LOI

If you are suggesting a 2nd walk on beside Leahy for next year you are putting the full burden on Hawkey. That is a gamble (and one I might take to juice up the forwards). That is one option

This whole thing just got a bit more complicated Kyle Koopman just committed he will grad from Bershire in'17 not sure if he will come in fall '17 or '18 but that eats more scholly money

Proud to announce my commitment to play college hockey at Providence College. Thank you to everyone who helped me along the way #GoFriars

They are not going to carry three scholarship goalies..I think they take the Molloy-Hill kid now and see if Hawkey signs after next year. Could be a reverse Gillies situation with Northeastern
