Throughout his four years he's always struggled stopping breakaways. Most of these scenarios a result of poor defensive alignment, bad puck luck, to end up on an opponent's stick. I hoped Parsons would get a little more game time than just this last game. I thought the splits for starts would be a lot closer to last year with Phil and Borgiel but not seeing anything like that in the new season yet. Give Phil a little break from riding one goalie all season long, let's see what the team has with Parsons so they're not chasing another #1 goaltender need for next year. Would dread a scenario of feeling Parsons isn't that guy, then where do you go?
I think the coach expects continuous improvement this year per his radio show. I hope this weekend is the start of that. Still very optimistic about the season. Actually surprised by the lack of polling respect given for two gutsy away comebacks this weekend, kind of unprecedented in my experience. Onward and upward.
6 short handed goals in 7 games is by far leading the nation, a stat you never want to lead in. Friars gave up 2 PP goals one on a 5 on 3 and another on the continuation of the 5 min major against McQueen (one of the penalties in the 5 on 3 situation). Last goal was an open net goal. Growing pains early but it's not like they can afford to lose these early season games against teams rated below.
UCONN has been playing very well, those will be 2 tough games this coming weekend. Merrimack has given the Friars fits recent years and then UMASS another team playing well with a very experienced goalie in Hrabel. Tough schedule before the go back to OOC play.

Friars played a very good road game, will they play well tonight, back to back?
On the broadcast, Mike said that since the 3 points for a win started the Friars had been in 42 games with the ability to get the 6 point weekend and were 3-39 in those instances. I don't know where they found that stat since it's off from what PC88 posted. In any case, it seems they have had lots of opportunities but have yet to turn the corner. Last couple of years it has hurt them a lot to not be able to finish off a weekend on Saturday especially at home.
Merrimack up next. They have given the Friars fits the past few years and have not been horrible this year. Not sure about this year, but they tend to be one of the older teams in the league. Need to get the home game win on Friday.

Every year they restock with mercenaries from western Canada. They are here for a year, maybe two and then they are gone and most are going to the NHL.

Nice comeback win on home ice, let's hope they can get a win again today!
Phil looking pretty sharp each game since being pulled during the St. Thomas weekend. I didn't realize just how good his numbers have been in that stretch. While his GAA took a hit with the Michigan games plus being pulled against St. Thomas, the overall numbers are right around his career averages. You could look at it and say that it's still early but it's around a month into the season, not just a one weekend sample size.
Defensively, I feel like this is their biggest weakness. Do they really have a #1 on the blueline? If they do, McCallum is the closest thing to it. He's been a terrific addition even in the short-term. There's no Walman, Richard or Callahan back there. Tough to bring in so many first-year players and expect immediate results, but with the # of freshmen on the forward lines (nice to see a freshmen trio get points on the same goal last night), they are starting to really click.
Some interesting officiating with last night's game and not a bias Pro-Friars, but lazy calls to both sides throughout the game. Seems like this is at least consistent throughout Hockey East where they have this problem, which sucks that nothing is being done to correct it. Get better, or get new offiicials. If anything, a mute button for the fans behind me would be a great feature!

Since my Warriors are not "thread worthy", I can only comment on the oppostion's thread. Boy you guys throw a lot of pucks on net! 79 shots on the weekend, and 38 of those coming in the 3rd periods (including 21 last night). Friars pushed hard in the 3rd, but Lundgren was solid in net for 'Mack. Trevor Hoskins (Niagra transfer) adds a level of skill that MC doesn't usually have. Mike McMahon feels like you guys are the best team in HE this year. Good luck the rest of the season.
If anyone watched, Mustard got totally screwed by the linesman on a game-tying goal midway through the 3rd period. Puck was shoved back in right at the blue line. Replay appears that we kept it in. Linesman immediately raised his arm.... Instead of letting the play go and allowing UMass to challenge the offsides. Brutal to not let such a close play, play on.

Providence absolutely got hosed on that call and it was a bad call. Difference between a win and an OT loss (which was also VERY close to offside and was NOT whistled down)
