As far as a new coach is concerned you can probably leave Bruce Crowder off the list, he is working for a pharmaceutical company in the Nassua area, home nights with his family and reported to be very happy

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I feel bad thinking about this, but I'm really torn as to root for pc this weekend or not. I was weighing the outcomes and I'm still split. The only reason I'd want us to win is if we can play BC in the first round of the HE tourney. We'd probably loose but depriving BC of a HE championship would be nice after another terrible year. Then again, if we make the tourney and even have one win, it gives army the ammo to say "next years the year." Either way I'll probably hope for a win on senior night.

As a side note, anyone see the merrimack hockey remix of the song "black and yellow?" Its so horrible its funny.

And you think this team, which hasn't won a conference road game since Halloween 2009, could actually win a multi-game series on the road at the best team in the conference and defending national champs because....

There's no outcome to weigh in realistic terms. This program starts the road to recovery once Army goes and not until then. IMO making the Quarterfinals will only add to the coach's already futile post-season record (outscored 26-3 in six losses), though I'm guessing BC would also love to see the Friars skate into Conte Forum.

Sorry Hockeyman, looks like i got overly optimistic. Of course, I don't think PC could beat BC in a first round series. I was simply trying to rationalize my presence at tomorrow nights game, aside from drinking too much and entertaining my girlfriends friends. Loosing 6-1, it doesn't look like we will have to worry about the HE playoffs.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

LOL squidjigger no worries my friend, no need to apologize either. I think you might need a few drinks tomorrow night :)

6-1 pasting at Merrimack following the 7-2 pasting at Lowell last weekend -- the plug needs to be pulled on this season. The only question left is if the team can get off the mat tomorrow night and simply show up to play. I am not saying "the kids aren't trying" but this certainly feels like a team that's just playing out the string -- just like many of Army's teams have.

His record in crunch time in January and February is so abysmal it's probably incomprehensible. I don't feel motivated enough to put the numbers together but when you consider they won 1 game after January 16th two seasons ago, then 1 game last season, and 0 games this season -- it's a mark of a coach that simply needs to go.

And this years January win was against High School Kids the under 18 squad.......go Timmy

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

at least we're not as bad as michigan tech...although they get a post season! so unfair.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

Things to consider:

-PC's last win this season over a Division 1 program: December 11th
-PC's last win in conference: November 5th
-PC's last road win in conference: October 31st 2009
-Outscored 13-3 by Lowell and Merrimack in their last 2 games

AND...
-Tim Army has a total of 2 total wins after January 16th in the 2008-09, 2009-10, 2010-11 seasons COMBINED

If that's not a recipe for a coaching change, I don't know what is.

It's not happening. They're going to stay with this and the next move will probably be to drop hockey. If they pay attention at all.
This is borderline tragic.

Re: Providence College 2010-2011 - Things are looking up.

I don't know how much the school gets from Hockey East but it must be a decent amount to be paying Army what he gets and his coaches their pay......the rink has its own income so that is a wash......I really don't think he will be fired because of the money they would have to pay him over the next two years and I don't think the school wants to drop hockey as the girls team does well and title ? would rule here, so we are stuck unless Army decides to resign or makes a ridiculously low buy out offer so his son can develop his skills under another coach

The school must be losing a bundle on hockey and probably has now for many years.

It could end up being more costly to the program -- in the long term -- to retain him and fall further behind in recruiting and turning the program around than keeping him for the sole purposes of saving money in the short-term.
