Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

Re: Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

That's pretty close to true!

Pulled out an old ECAC yearbook at random (1977 recap) -- it shows Clarkson's Dave Taylor with 41 goals and 67 assists in just 34 games that year. Nearly three points a game, and for all I know that maybe wasn't even his best year...

Which begs the question, Richard.... how in the hell did UNH ever lose???

Re: Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

End of 2. After a horrible start to the second when they gave up the tying goal 59 seconds in and just looked otherwise discombobulated, they really came on strong and popped 4 to take a 5-1 lead into the dressing room.

Re: Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

When do SOG mean absolutely nothing?? When you are PC and you lead 24-22 in shots and the scoreboard reads UNH 5, PC 1 at the end of 2 periods.

Re: Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

Other HE scores:

BC 2 - UML 0 2nd
MC 3 - UVM 1 2nd
UMass 2 - NU 2 End of 2
BU 1 - Maine 1 - 2nd

Re: Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

Exactly correct. :D

UNH goals for that season: 245 in 39 games. But GA = 181.

For Clarkson: GF 222 in 36 games; GA just 127!
By the way, on the cover of that 77-78 guide is a great photo of Cornell's Lance Nethery (he was AWESOME) with UNH's Dave Lumley (later with Edmonton) and Joe Rando. Boston Garden, 1977 ECAC championship semi-final.

To underscore the point here: game's final score (in double overtime!) was UNH 10, Cornell 9.

Loudest I have EVER heard a hockey rink, and that includes the game pictured in my own photo below...

Evening all. I'm watching the UNHwildcats.TV video feed with my son on his computer w/big flat screen monitor and I'm impressed with the production and quality of the picture. Combine that with the radio guys play-by-play and it's the next best thing to being at the Whit.
Chad - I understand your skepticism about having 4 forwards on the power play but it is really gelling tonight. When it works right, it creates more passing down low and in front of the goalie.
Looking forward to seeing you folks next Friday.

CHC... I get it... and you are right about that...but my only reservation to it is that I don't think the risk is worth it. Likewise, I am never in favor of pulling the goalie to get a 6x4 advantage when you have the PP and trying to tie the game with under 1:30 to play. But that's just me.... yet you see it all the time.

Clark-Hislop-Cox will testify to the scoring back in our era that I've been describing (posts 56, 63 and 69 below).

Thanks Chad. It's great to be here on the message boards for the second time (Last night was the first). So, how are things?

Good buddy! Are you going to be at the Whitt next weekend for the Maine series?

Re: Providence at UNH - 01/29/11

PC headed to the PP as Kipp will go for tripping... PC goes on PP#4... they are 0 for 3 so far.
