Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Judging by the shots on goal for BC he has not been replaced on the ice which explains 20 saves in the first period and 30 thru 2

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Or maybe he figured it was pointless to stay on the Titanic.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

I guess he wasn't up to the challenge to fight to get better and get his time back, at least that's what the HC hinted in his talk with Mike L.

It had to be Smith's lack of heart and failure in accepting the challenge rather than any fault of Timmy's to effectively coach or give enough a player enough ice time. Foxhole Timmy never takes the blame. If a player leaves or the team loses it's on them.

Out shot 45-15 and it wasn't even that close. BC stomped the Friars in the 1st and again in the 3rd. BC is a fun team to watch. Speed, speed and then more speed.
Beaudry was shelled but kept the Friars in the game. Nice goals by BC and nothing fluky.
Dumb penalties (especially two by JC) and lack of team defense and ZERO power play = last place in Hockeyeast and going nowhere!!! :o :o :o

*** Watch the Friars coaching staff next game and compare their actions/reactions to those of the opposing coaches. Tell me what you notice.

This is going to get worse over the next few weeks. It was their first game back after a month off and the team looks like they've already quit. BU is up next!

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

4-1 BC 45 shots on goal, you have to feel for Beaudry......Driscoll and Army were on Cox the other nite patting each other on the back for the great job they are doing and Army was all excited about coaching (and probably ruining) his kid next year.....you have to feel bad for the kid he has no choice

I did feel bad for Beaudry. I know it sounds sick but he had a good game all things considered. The end result would have been MUCH worse had he not played so well. BC skated circles around Providence in the first and third periods.

Army's son playing here reminds me of another player who got a scholarship to PC based on who he knew rather than based on merit. He did contribute two penalties tonight so he's got that working for him. HC didn't even offer that player a scholarship but PC did a few years ago???

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

2-8-1, players leaving (again!), outshot 45-16 -- welcome to January everyone!

The best thing that could happen to this program is if the team goes to pieces again. Honestly, nobody wants to see that, I realize -- but only if the bottom falls out, again, is anyone going to pay attention and possibly address the situation.

Army has been a disaster as coach. I don't think it's hyperbole to say that at this point. We know there are other problems, sure, but Army was brought in here to do a job and he's on track to possibly hit 100 losses by the time the year is over. That ought to be unacceptable for any Hockey East program, much less PC.

To the PC administration - is anybody there? Does anybody care?

Overall/Providence Record: 55-88-17, 5th season (From USCHO Providence Page)

Yup, 100 losses by February is conceivable. With 16 games to go most against the top tier of HEA I'd say pretty likely.

But, hey, PC did beat:
Notre Dame (currently 7th in CCHA)
Bowling Green twice (currently 11th, that is, tied for last in CCHA)
Holy Cross (currently 8th of 10 in AHA)
Brown (currently 9th of 12 in ECACHL)

Looks like the wins over Lowell and UMass shape up as the "quality" wins so far this year and they are right at the middle of the pack of Hockey East.

I'd say the glass is pretty dang full right now. But the question remains, "what is in the glass?"

Pretty likely? You are WAY too pessimistic my friend. ;)

It's NOT a question of if but rather a question of when. With sixteen games to go I say that the "Race to 100" is well underway and the record happens before the final two weeks of the season.

It WILL be celebrated with signs, noise makers and fanfare. I'd like to have the section E'ers host the festivities but I'm willing to do so in lower M. I'd just like to be closer to Timmy when we celebrate his accomplishment!!!! :p :p :p

I will start the publicly counting down once we get to 90 losses during his tenure. That should be sometime after next week. :o :(

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

My another milestone in PC hockey and we can be a part of it......maybe a bus trip if it seems like it will happen on the road

A bus trip may be in order as I think the "Race to 100" will end vs. UML.

I just hope that The Hockey Guy will be there to share in this milestone. Without his extension of Timmy's contract, none of this would have been possible. Timmy would be up in Toronto or Washington or Anaheim head coaching, no doubt, some lucky NHL team to the Cup. :p

Great stats Freds -- like some of us (cough) said back in OCTOBER and NOVEMBER, you don't throw a party for winning games at the start of the season over teams who you have no idea how good they are or not.

I think it's time someone updated the thread topic with the RACE TO 100 as it has now been coined by 91. I will take credit for mining that nugget of trivia, but the title is all his! lol. :p

According to the Box score last night PC had 1 shot on net in the 1st period. Was that 1 shot a failed icing?

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

It was sad to see so few PC fans at the game last night. Even Smiling Gene thought that PC91 was a BC guy.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

"The Race To 100" OMG I love it!!!!

Is it possible that this could happen by the end of the Olympics and NBC could use this milestone as part of the "Closing Ceremonies"

Haha! Seriously, who knew we'd be on the verge of one of the all-time amazing accomplishments in the history of PC hockey.

Freds is the one who needs to update the OP. I vote in favor of THE RACE TO 100 IS ON! Or, ARMY'S MARCH TO 100 LOSSES! :p :p :p :p

I second that emotion!!! Freds should make the update when he finds some time.
It's historic! :p

Re: Providence - 2009-10 What is in the glass?

Seems like it will only be a matter of time before the hazaard you call your arena gets ripped down. Sure something worthwhile could be put there. Heck its a corner lot and its on the bus line.

What a waste of a resource. Of course your athletic department has no resources. Most especially coaches and bosses......\Scumbums each and everyone one:D

I'm sorry, all of our resources go to making sure our mediocre basketball team has more national relevance than the entire UNH program combined. Times three. No one cares about hockey, especially at PC. Sigh.
Maybe they'll put up a giant statue of Cory Wright missing that last shot against Arizona just to further make sure that I never make a donation.
