Re: Providence - 2009-10 In-season Thread

Sorry for an off topic post, but to brighten up your night and bring back good memories, check out this youtube video montage of BobbyOrr in his prime.

Then you can go back to being negative. :p

Re: Providence - 2009-10 In-season Thread

Any true PC fan will be at the Coffin on Friday night.
I'll be at the coffin Friday night. Does that mean I'm a true fan? Honestly, this thread has me a little mixed up.

I think that PC is going to steal one game this weekend.
Most likely the UNH game should be more of an opportunity for an upset because UNH may overlook the Friars, it's the first game of the weekend so the Friars will fresher, PC got housed in Maine last weekend and will be looking to rebound, and the game is on the smaller sheet.
It's UNH's only game of the weekend, and their last until January, so I think it's safe to say they are focused on this one. Also, I think the ice sheet may help UNH - they've been a physical, grinding team this year. Smaller ice tends to suit that.

Something Merrimack will never play in.
Just Merrimack? Is the rest of Hockey East eligible?

Yes, we all know that you're an incognito Goon. Stop pretending.

Fred, there are about 14 different Orr tribute videos on Youtube. You could spend an entire evening watching them. And some of them have Fred Cusick too!

NU, BU, BC and Hah-vahd play in the Beanpot.

Who plays in the Beanpoy? Not Merrimack. That's all I know.

Bla,bla, bla is all I hear from you. That and we're afraid to play PC cause we're scared and I'm afraid to debate PC91 in all things hockey cause he's SO smart. :p ;)

BTW Looking forward to seeing you guys on Friday. Hope you all are well. Is my favorite UNH'er making the trip? Don't tell me she's selling candy somewhere!

It does now that the fan base is next to nothing. :o
You should have read the rules before you bought the ticket. Sorry but you're a Friar now. :D

Like she'd miss a UNH game within 3 hours of her house. Hell, she went to RPI and Wisco this year. She'll be at the coffin.

I'd rather be a Frir. ;)
(typo on the tickets a few years back)

You are fresh but I like you anyway!

BTW You, candy cane etc. are troopers. Love your loyalty.
Please sure to stop over to lower M if I don't get to you all first. All the best. :)

You figure it out, you are the boy genius of the thread.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 In-season Thread

Does PC still play for the Coffee Poy?

That tourney was a great idea w/ a STUPID name.

I love Rhode Island and this area is a nice draw during "tournament time" as people flock to these parts (Boston, Providence etc.) around the holidays. Many fans loved the frozen four held in Providence becasue of the layout of the city, restaurants, bars, attractions between RI and Boston, close to the casinos etc.
The problem seemed to be that PC was trying to create a tournament and brought in teams that were a good starting point (not great teams by any stretch but a good start) but PC discontinued running it before it had a chance to catch on.
Nice idea, horrible follow through. You know, what we have come to know as business as usual from Providence College Athletics.

*** The exception to that is the Friends of Friar Hockey Room. The Leary Family donation was instrumental but the powers that be go this one right by following through. Again, great job.

I will be in attendance when the "Ocean Skate Tournament" (formerly The Coffee Pot) comes back. :D

The central problem, right from the very start, was who they invited as memory serves. They needed more of a New England flavor to draw fans in, even if they invited another Hockey East school with an actual fan base it would've brought people into Providence. Union, Merrimack, Holy Cross, St. Cloud St., etc. didn't get the job done, and seeing that the Friars weren't (and still aren't) packing them in, it was a bad recipe right off the bat.

Like 91 says it was basically managed like the program itself, which is why it was so short-lived. :p Didn't help that the Dunk was such a dump then as well...should've kept it on campus the entire time (one year it was held there, no? When Colgate was there?), as the empty seats wouldn't have been as noticeable at Schneider.

cbg is a genius. I'll add that to the pile.

Re: Providence - 2009-10 In-season Thread

And if I remember correctly, that was the occasion you started blaming "bad ice," and I don't mean the skating surface. :p

I WAS served bad ice at that establishment. It made my eyesight fuzzy and slurred my speech. It also gave me a terrible headache the next morning. They are lucky that I didn't take legal action. :p

Re: Providence - 2009-10 In-season Thread

Bad ice can be very addictive.....I think some of it was in Hockeydads glass, I know its giving me a head ache
