I certainly would. I love sports betting. And I love doing it at extremely small stakes. A couple of years ago some buddies and I spent 10 days in Las Vegas over March Madness and I put $10 on every single NCAA game. It was a blast.

I really don't think it's going to have the detrimental effect some people claim, at least on the sports themselves. It's not like there has been little or nothing bet on sports in this country annually in the past.

The primary problem will be gambling addiction, and the problems that become associated with that.

The only difference between today's ruling and the past, is that tax revenue will be made. That's it. I used to bet on sports quite a bit, found I liked it a little too much (not that I was going broke, pretty much broke even, maybe made a couple dollars), then stopped. Not worth the legal risk.

That being said, may dabble here and there, for fun.

I will bet...low stakes but at least it will give me a reason to pretend to care about sports. Watching professional (or college nowadays) sports where I dont have a rooting interest is the biggest waste of time ever. At least if I put $10 on the game I have a reason to want the team to win. Just like horse racing...

And this will change nothing about the sports themselves. It isnt like gambling isnt already all over the place anyways. You know why point spreads and money lines are put in every newspaper across the country...it aint so the stats nerds can jerkoff with their protractors...it is because of gambling. You know why March Madness is a big deal...its 10% Cinderella Stories and 90% betting pools. You know why the NFL dominates...gambling.

Gambling is not going to change anything...

The Footloose states, I assume: Kansas, Oklahoma, Mississippi. Anywhere people still think the Man in the Sky's a real thing.

Can you actually bet on a scripted event like that, or is that a joke? Srsly, that sounds like an actual license to print money for the criminals who run wrestling.

I can see that, too. Missouri came to mind as a state that on the one hand is filled with those mouthbreathers but on the other hand has the riverboat traffic where they vacuum the suckers dry.

As with most things the Fundies are hypocritical on this, too. I think we'll wind up with "wide open towns" like in the olden days. They just steer that traffic to the black parts of town where the cops can go in and bust heads every once in a while to keep them in their place (c.f.,drug policy since the 1960s).

Everybody wins.

I understand why the leagues want these “integrity” fees or whatever, but that will never happen. The books and casinos regulate these bets — why provide a fee to the leagues when they don’t have to? The NBA won’t be able to tell MGM you can’t offer bets on our games.. unless I’m misunderstanding, there’s no leverage, is there?

Sure they don’t have to take bets live at their arenas then — but people will be making bets on their mobile devices and will be able to do so from their seats in the arena.

SCOTUS just rules it unconstitutional to outlaw betting on professional and amateur sports — the NBA won’t be able to tell MGM - you can offer bets on our games.

For clarity, the court ruled that the feds can't bar states from offering gambling. The states could impose a fee to pass along to the respective sports if they choose to do so.

The NBA can do a couple things to the casinos. First, they can block certain mobile apps from working on their WiFi connections. Second, they can rewrite their cable and satellite contracts to not allow to those providers to sell the NBA service package to casinos. While it would hardly kill the business, it would make things less convenient and perhaps deter some gamblers who were on the margin.

Yes it will - it will turn more average joes into fans who watch, and I do think fanbases for the non NFL sports have potential to grow too.

I don’t think it’ll change the games themselves, but who tunes in and for how long is a key piece to this.

Additionally, and we’ve seen it already, for example Bear’s segment on College Gameday, but pregame and halftime shows are going to change to include more betting and more lines, etc. people will want all the “help” they can get when betting before and during games.

As soon as this gets widespread on mobile devices, the changes could be pretty significant. I’m excited to watch it all play out over the next few years.
