Presidents Council says NO to DI/DIII combo weekend

Re: Presidents Council says NO to DI/DIII combo weekend

Great news, especially for a Plattsburgh fan who couldn't be happier about the current arrangement. So I guess it buys us another year, at the least. Unfortunately, it does look like the committee might be swayed by tightening up the schedule to DIII-length. Here's hoping that any such attempt will end in a horrible trainwreck :)

So now where does the 2014 championship go?

Lake Placid is booked. Back to campus sites?

If needs be. Would there be any particular problem securing the Aud? That would seem like a pretty good stopgap, and it could only be necessary for one season. Also, looks like there are some happy coaches out there:

Smart move by D 3 President's Coincil # no joint championship # Preseidents out do Championship Committee # Smart move

It could go West again to Ridder, which was a perfect venue for the games. If they DO go to one game / week (eliminate the Wednesday) for the 1st two rounds, then Lake Placid comes back into play.

In any event, if they go back to Ridder, they have to go to the extra week as there will be a D-I conference championship in town the normal week of the semis/final.

Re: Presidents Council says NO to DI/DIII combo weekend

Being selfish for a moment, I'd like to see it at Yost one year, in Ann Arbor. Regardless of who makes it.

Re: Presidents Council says NO to DI/DIII combo weekend

Given SNC's performance the past few finals, a Wisconsin site might be appropriate - Milwakee??? Otherwise, there is a very nice rink in Bridgeport, CT that has hosted D1 Regionals...Manhattanville could step up to host - or the CT College Camels? BROOKLYN??? (Jay-Z can skate, can't he?)

"Women's/Men's D3 Hockey Championship Weekend - The Frozen Eight"
8 Teams, 6 Games, 1 Venue

Who wants to help write a comprehensive proposal?

In the immortal words of all the political candidates I approve this message

I've asked the question of those that run the Resch Center in Green Bay (home of USHL Gamblers). And, without any sport of guarantee that SNC makes it, they just aren't willing to risk it financially. Attendance at the D1 regionals without Wisconsin has been been poor to below average, depending on your view of these things.

And while the Brown County Arena makes more sense in some ways (4500 seats, not 9000), the building just isn't up to hosting this sort of event. The Gamblers will play two games there this weekend because high school state volleyball is in the Resch - but that's like using your rec room instead of living room. It's fine for close friends, but nothing you'd want to use to entertain guests from out of town.

Elsewhere in the state, the only facility I think that would make any sort of sense is the new LaBahn Arena at Wisconsin - the Badgers' answer to Ridder. Not a bad location in an appropriate sized facility.

And, YEAH to no combined championships!

Re: Presidents Council says NO to DI/DIII combo weekend

Put it in either Minneapolis or Boston. Major airport hubs, not an excruciating drive for the region's fans, stuff to do at night. Boom.

I don't know why they haven't thought of or done this already.... it only makes sense. oh wait, that's why they won't do it.... CAUSE IT MAKES SENSE!!!

Re: Presidents Council says NO to DI/DIII combo weekend

Put it in Denver...
No D-III teams playing D-III in the area.

Minnesota (Ridder) and New England / NY are the two candidates. While the Resch Center would be a great venue, there are schedule conflicts with the Gamblers.

Make it one week later and combine the men and women in one weekend. Men (Fri / Sat eve), Women (Thurs / Sat aft). 3 separate admissions.

Denver located in Delaware County, New York at latitude 42.213 and longitude -74.569. ;)

Well no combo championship this year in D3.

Being reported on the women's board that Wis.Superior is hosting the women's frozen four in the first year D3 women have gone to a predetermined site.
