Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

We can fight the Orcs but we won't win. The elves are too divided and only care about fading into the West.

That is not the attitude that's going to reach Mordor and dispose of the ring.

Ya got me. Maybe the reason he remains "under audit" is the IRS has been trying to figure out what to do if they catch the incoming president in a felony.

Presumably the day he takes office he'll just shut down his own audit and seal the records so, uh, problem solved?

You assume that he's actually being audited. I think you assume incorrectly.

I'm fairly certain THAT would be impeachable, even if it has to wait until 2019 (although I would like to believe the present Congress isn't that partisan, a part of me is still skeptical).

Regardless of feelings about the IRS, or feelings about whether the 16th amendment was properly ratified (there are certainly some interesting theories out there on some amendments; I won't get into those at this time), it's still presently law of the land as it is in the Constitution. You expect Congress to confirm people to properly enforce the Constitution.

As for if they catch the person in a felony, that's an interesting one. Impeachment is obviously for charging a felony while the person sits in office, but if they're not in office yet, you could still go the old fashioned way, and then the 25th amendment would have Michael Pence be sworn in on the 20th. But if the person sits in office and is charged with something that happens before taking the oath? I don't know.

Is it an invasion of privacy to release who is presently under audit? If so, we may not know unless something is released.

Good question. I would think (hope) there must be the financial equivalent of HIPAA to protect that information.

The IRS can't release your tax docs to the public at large. They can be released to the courts as evidence in a trial, but that's not the same as making them public. That's why POTUS candidates always make a big show of releasing their filings during their campaigns, after their August/September jamborees.

If one files a fraudulent form that is obviously a deliberate and systematic intention to misrepresent his income by hundreds of millions of dollars, he can be charged with felony tax evasion and go to jail. See Capone, Al.

The road to serfdom.

The good news is while the media couldn't be bothered to cover the erosion of ordinary citizens' rights under the GOP Schutzstaffel, they'll go to the wall to protect themselves, so maybe we'll see some actual reporting for a change.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

Also you'd think, if we want to play the partisan angle as some right-wingers still wish to do, it's still Obama's guy as commissioner (and will still be for the next couple years because it's a 5-year term expiring in 2018), and you'd think if they found something, they would have gotten a court order already. But to play the partisan left angle and hypothesize that there was fraud (obviously we don't know), were they waiting for after the election to prosecute to make sure Trump wasn't seen by the electorate as a martyr-like entity? That's certainly a valid point of consideration, as birth issues may have helped Obama for the same reason. But now that the election is over and certified by Congress, what would they have to lose by such an audit and/or order?

Something tells me they just couldn't find anything, aside from him continuing to count the major capital loss he had a few decades ago (same rules for claiming that apply to him as they do to us).

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

BBC had a very interesting article about this dossier. It's not all fake. The russians look at trump as a useful tool, And it's likely they have stuff on him.

Yes. "More than one tape with audio and visual, on more than one date, in more than one place" with compromising footage. It's going to get really interesting.

Re: POTUS Elect Trump II: We Are So Totally F%*#ed

It's interesting to me how angry Trump was at the press conference about the supposed "fake" news. Isn't this the same guy that was on TV over and over again harping about Obama's Birth Certificate? Did Obama not take questions from CNN for broadcasting the story?

The double standard and the false equivalency going on in this country is off the ****ing charts.

Like a real life Cersei Lannister.

Not sure how that leads to serfdom... unless you're saying that his choice to not follow the protocol in place for asking questions means the leaders can't be questioned. I seem to recall, when Obama first became President, some of his press conferences involved the media being fed questions to ask and when they'd be called on, reducing the press conference to an absolute farce. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPDmeEuII0c

This is why the dying of mainstream and rise of independent media is a very good thing for journalism, for the exact reason you mentioned. The obvious elephants in the room are how to question your leaders, which is something I think we can all agree is a necessity for a free republic, and how to facilitate related communications. Youtube has made great strides on the latter, albeit usually sponsored through some sort of media outlet (heck, RPI-TV covered a Trump rally). Obviously we can all ask the questions, and as always, no one has to answer them, especially if you were to look at the 5th amendment exceptionally broadly (yes I understand it only applies to self-incrimination, but the same concept applies). Once we figure out those two concepts, we'll welcome government communications into the 21st century and be able to springboard ourselves to the future.

There were rumors going back to last summer in Washington of there being a tape of Trump in a Russian orgy, possibly with some girls of insufficient age. They were written off as too outlandish at the time, but now, here we are. If Trump's claim that these are all "unverifiable" doesn't hold up, he may end up wishing it was only prostitutes peeing on a bed.

In lesser controversies, it appears to be pretty obvious that Trump's giant stack of folders up on stage yesterday was filled with nothing but blank papers. That's just such a perfect metaphor.

Let's see how good the hackers are. Let's see if there's anybody good enough to hack into the FSB, get the footage, then hack the Fox, CNN and network inauguration broadcasts and put it on every TV in the US.

You want your new media revolution, Flag? Well that's the bar I'm setting.
