I don't understand the "deal" that he made. They saved ~1000 jobs not all the jobs. AND they're still building their next factory in Mexico which I assume is still going to ship product back to the United States. As far as I'm concerned he failed.

Not to mention the Apple Factory he wants will last all of a year until everyone whines their Iphone costs too much cause Apple had to pay workers an actual wage.

Were you actually expecting to give approval to any appointments Trump makes? I can tell you from the start that I didn't expect anyone on this board, save perhaps a couple people, to have a positive opinion of any of Trump's handlers' appointments.

It's analogous to the GOP tax shell game. They lower your taxes $5k, but by lowering the taxes of the wealthy by $5M they open up a huge budget deficit. As the debt service eats up the budget they cut back social programs -- so the middle class tax payer is hurt doubly: they pay the debt service run up by the rich's tax holiday, and they pay by the deterioration of social programs, both in opportunity cost for themselves and in the increased costs as the poor turn to drugs and crime. This destroys the middle class which removes an impediment to the wealthy gaining greater control over the economy and the political system, and this goes on as a vicious cycle generation after generation.

Meanwhile, there are just enough useful idiots in the middle class spouting GOP talking points to keep the system moving.

Do you get the sense we have seen an abnormal amount of press coverage of the Trump cabinet appointments, or in some cases, non-appointments, compared to other President-elects? By abnormal I just mean a lot more and a lot closer coverage.

I only ask that question because in all honesty I really don't recall much coverage at all in prior administrations, beyond, "President-elect _______ nominated _______ to this cabinet post today."

I'm willing to concede my perception may be clouded by age, failing memory or just general lack of interest in prior administrations. But if anyone else has had the same perception, I'm curious what people think the effect of that extra scrutiny has been or will be on either the appointees or early coverage of this administration. Is this just a precursor to the detail in which literally every single item associated with the Presidency is covered maybe to the point of ad nauseam?

You are seeing more coverage because Trump wants you to. He is playing the media just like he did the entire election. Previous PEs have kept their choices a close hold until the actual announcement, Trump is parading people in and out of his golf course, Trump Tower etc. while making everyone stop and pose for a picture.

I think you may be right, Hovey. I also think that given Trump's displayed ignorance on many issues, his history of unpreparedness and impulsivity, together with his prior policy positions on The Wall, discriminating against Muslims, marginalizing NATO, and giving tax breaks for the very wealthy, the world is desperate to know who will really be running things.

Obama nominated a respected nuclear physicist to head the Department of Energy. Trump picked the 12th-place finisher on Dancing with the Stars. That's why there's more scrutiny. We want an accurate record of exactly how you ****ed us over.
