Trump slams US evangelical magazine that called for his removal

Christianity Today publishes editorial calling for Trump's removal over his 'profoundly immoral' actions.

Christianity Today on Thursday wrote in an editorial, entitled "Trump Should Be Removed from Office", that it could no longer stand on the sidelines after the Republican president's impeachment this week by the US House of Representatives.

"The president of the United States attempted to use his political power to coerce a foreign leader to harass and discredit one of the president's political opponents," it wrote. "That is not only a violation of the Constitution; more importantly, it is profoundly immoral."

Trump, who has denied wrongdoing and branded his impeachment as a politically-motivated effort by Democrats to overturn the results of the 2016 election, questioned Christianity Today's success and dismissed its call that he be removed from office.

"No President has done more for the evangelical community, and it's not even close," Trump tweeted, without providing evidence.

Sure thing.

Sure thing.

This should be interesting. I've read that some evangelicals are slamming the mag, they are full Trump. They are ditching a main source of their message for this man. Amazing, and not in a good way. I'm flabbergasted.

Not at all surprised you are. You still believe that Republicans and evangelicals are acting out of good faith, and have just been subsumed by a small group of radicals acting against their core beliefs.

So charmingly sweet.

Yeah, I wasn't surprised. Not at all.

To the extent any trump supporters actually perused either the magazine (it's circulation is about 130,000 and even today Time magazine has a circulation nearly 20 times that) or its online content, you can be sure they have changed their tune. As soon as Dear Leader was criticized the magazine was dead to any trump supporter who may have still been paying any attention to it. And knowing what I do about CT (not a lot, but some) trump supporters -- at least those who have the ability to read -- weren't reading it much.

Re: POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

Would we be better off or worse off it the Russians decided trump had outlived his usefulness to them, knowing what the Russians do when one of their dupes is no longer useful?

Sometimes I think this guy cherry picks, and I’m not a fan of diagnosing from afar, but this is not normal behavior.

Re: POTUS: Definitely Needs Anger Management

Yeah, I really stopped following him regularly the deeper he went down the rabbit hole. He just became overly obsessed and he was flagging completely benign things.

But sometimes he’s not wrong. This is a tic that in any other circumstance it’s not a big deal. But when you’re slurring at the same time? That’s not so good I can’t imagine.

I thought the circulation was bigger than that. I am surprised only because the hard core religious seemed to be part of Trump's fanbase, and for them to ditch a supporter of their religious beliefs....

trump is not a supporter of evangelicals. He is a user. Also, define "religious." My best friend is an evangelical Christian, but is not a trump supporter. It seems to me the "hard core religious" who claim to be supporters of trump all have one thing in common: They live lives of complete and total hypocrisy.

All key points. Trump is a user, and it seemed to me that the "Fundies" were Trumpers. That's where I was puzzled. And totally agree on hypocrisy. Love EVERYONE, unless they don't agree with our belief.

The GOP is not a political party, it's a suicide pact.

I hope the Dems pull their security clearance when we retake the government. Just stop briefing them. This is the kind of **** that makes me think they’re compromised.
