Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

The president (no matter who it is) usually either gets too much credit or too much blame for current economy, given the time it takes for policies to settle in and take shape.

Correct, but if Trump's going to make it a talking point, voters need to be beaten senseless with the factual numbers. There has been less overall growth in his term, and continued contraction in sectors he was supposed to "bring back".

And if we want to criticize both Obama and Trump on the economy, how much of that jobs growth resulted in substantial real wage growth for a majority of the country, and not just the richest third?

Also have to factor in unforeseen circumstances, like the current Coronavirus, that is shutting down trade/etc. Whoever is the next prez will have to deal with those economic numbers.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

Ah, the both sides.

Never change, Ruby.

Ummm...you realize this is what everyone has said forever right? That isnt a "both sides argument" that is the conventional wisdom. Pretty much the standard taught in Poli Sci and Econ...

But you do you...you dont look like a creepy stalker AT ALL ;)

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

No. That's not true either. Republicans get credit for the economy. Democrats do not. Obama has NEVER gotten the credit he deserved for bringing us back from the abyss. Trump has been fellated extensively over his economic returns.

When a Democrat is elected next the most important economic driver that exists will be the debt/deficit. When a Republican is elected next the most important economic driver that exists will be tax cuts.

The man/party/media that is able to change this absolutely ****ing insane narrative will be a personal hero of mine for life.

All part of the standard narrative. They'll be back as soon as a Democrat gets elected President.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

What' the first thing fascists do when they control government? Make it illegal to protect people whom fascists attack.

In an amicus brief provided to the Supreme Court on this case, Amnesty International demonstrates that the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) has used the criminal provision under question – 8 U.S.C. § 1324(a)(1)(A)(iv) – to criminally investigate and chill a substantial amount of speech protected by the First Amendment. In particular, the government created a “Watchlist” of human rights defenders, which was maintained by DHS’s Customs and Border Protection regional office in San Diego. The Watchlist contained the names, pictures, and other identifying information of fifty-nine journalists, lawyers, activists, and other humanitarian volunteers active at the border, including a clergy member.

Except we arent talking about that Mr. "I Take People's Posts And Twist Them So I Can Insert My whine of the Month" :D (you need a new name this is too long ;) )

Conventional wisdom is that while the media likes to talk about how a specific President is responsible (or not) for the economy in truth that isnt the case. It has nothing to do with Party. That is what Rube is saying. (and is something we have been saying around here forever and Economists and Academics has spouted for decades) You know this, you were here for it.

Here let me remind you:

Conservative Nimrod: OBAMAS ECONOMY SUCKS!!
Liberal Responder: ONLY CAUSE DUBYA SCREWED EVERYTHING UP!!!!
Conservative Nimrod: YOU CANT JUST BLAME EVERYTHING ON THE PAST PRESIDENT!!!1!!!
Liberal Responder: DUBYA IS THE WORST PRESIDENT EVER! HE DESTROYED THE CLINTON ECONOMY!!
Conservative Nimrod: CLINTON ONLY BALANCED THE BUDGET BECAUSE OF THE CONSERVATIVE CONGRESS!!!
Random Poster Who Stays Out of the Fray but Studied Economics: Actually none of them deserve much credit at all because the economy is cyclical and the decisions can take years to really effect any real change...
Conservative Nimrod: SHUT UP YOU ELITIST DBAG!!
Liberal Responder: SHUT UP YOU WALL STREET LOVING HACK!
/end scene

But that gets in the way of your ranting so please...continue :D
