<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">This really seems like it should be a bigger story. Via <a href="https://twitter.com/JRubinBlogger?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@JRubinBlogger</a>: The New York City bar goes after William Barr <a href="https://t.co/QTcAHSWyYg">https://t.co/QTcAHSWyYg</a> Via <a href="https://twitter.com/PostOpinions?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@PostOpinions</a></p>— Greg Sargent (@ThePlumLineGS) <a href="https://twitter.com/ThePlumLineGS/status/1228101270067654656?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">February 13, 2020</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

We write to express our deep concerns about the impartial administration of justice in connection with the prosecution of Roger Stone in federal court in Washington, D.C., and to call for immediate investigations by Congress and by the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General. Recent actions by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia, a component of the United States Department of Justice, raise serious questions about whether the Department of Justice is making prosecutorial decisions based not on neutral principles but in order to protect President Trump’s supporters and friends. In our criminal justice system, a single standard must apply to all who are accused or convicted of violating the law — unequal treatment based on political influence is to be deplored in all cases but is especially dangerous if it emanates from the presidency.

The City Bar has previously criticized the Attorney General for his failure to recuse himself from the Department of Justice’s review of the whistleblower complaint, in which the Attorney General was himself mentioned during the Trump-Zelensky phone call of July 25, 2019. We also have also called for congressional investigation of several public pronouncements by the Attorney General that we believe were inconsistent with the independence required of his office. The present case raises more direct, and more serious, questions concerning the role of presidential influence in prosecuting individual criminal cases. All prior Presidents, at least since Watergate, made it a practice to decline to comment on ongoing cases being handled by the Department of Justice. This practice protected the criminal justice system from improper presidential influence. ... [If departure from the practice] is tolerated, it will undermine the rule of law on which our nation was founded and on which we rely as a foundation of our democracy.

Both of these things are impeachable offenses.

They'll just appeal till they get the answer they want. As I stated before these Court rulings don't do anything under this administration because precedence no longer matters.

Awesome. Just what we need in society. A return to '70's era bullying in public schools.

That is so ****ing awesome.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

To be honest, this barely even registers any surprise: https://www.gq.com/story/trump-has-badger-questions

After Trump was reminded that the short-legged omnivore was practically synonymous with the Badger State, he'd make a point of bringing it up at seemingly random occasions to his beleaguered chief of staff. "Are they mean to people?" Trump at least twice asked Priebus in the opening months of his presidency. "Or are they friendly creatures?" The president would also ask if Priebus had any photos of badgers he could show him, and if Priebus could carefully explain to him how badgers "work" exactly.

...

He wanted Reince—resident White House badger historian, apparently—to explain to him Wisconsin's obsession with the animal, how the little critters function and behave, what kind of food they like, and how aggressive or deadly they could be when presented with perceived existential threats. Trump also wanted to know if the badger had a "personality" or if it was boring. What kind of damage could a badger to do a person with its flashy, sharp claws? An obviously enthralled president would stare at Priebus as the aide struggled for sufficiently placating answers, all the while trying to gently veer the conversation back to whether we were going to do a troop surge in Afghanistan or strip millions of Americans of healthcare coverage.

To be honest, this barely even registers any surprise: https://www.gq.com/story/trump-has-badger-questions

I guess the difference between this president and President Bartlet is that President Bartlet would have brought the conversation back on track, after veering it off in the first place, with a comment that proved he was thinking about the important issue all along, rather than truly, madly, deeply enthralled by the ridiculous sidebar conversation.

Re: POTUS: A Sharpie Is Always Needed

https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/former-white-house-chief-staff-164143306.html

Former White House chief of staff John Kelly spoke about the state of media and slammed Fox News Wednesday night, saying a person who only watched that network wouldn’t be “an informed citizen.”

During a lecture at the Drew University Forum in Morristown, N.J., according to the Washington Post, Kelly rebuffed former boss President Donald Trump, saying, “The media, in my view — and I feel very strongly about this — is not the enemy of the people.”

He went on, “We need a free media. That said, you have to be careful about what you are watching and reading, because the media has taken sides. So if you only watch Fox News, because it’s reinforcing what you believe, you are not an informed citizen.”
