Here's the thing- by taking this side, we just lost all credibility to negotiate peace. This clearly chooses a side instead of trying to stay in the middle.

We didn't accept that the USSR took over Afghanistan by conquest. We didn't accept Iraq taking over Kuwait by conquest. But now we are supposed to accept this conquest? Weak sauce excuse.

Just as technology is making brick and mortar schools obsolete, why can't technology make the need for an ambassador obsolete, too? We can phone, Skype, etc. just about everywhere on the planet. Why do we need a huge staff in every country to represent the USA when I can keep a smaller group in Foggy Bottom?

If you need an on-site presence, no place is more than a 2 day trip via a fast jet.

This. Anyone who has attempted to conduct workshops or negotiations remotely, would know that it's far more preferable to do such things in person. Doing them over teleconference is code-speak for, "We're too cheap to do this properly."

Plus, if we shutdown our embassies in foreign countries, where are US citizens supposed to go if there is trouble and they need help? Call a hotline? :rolleyes:

It's going to get to the point where Americans won't be able to travel. I'm skittish on it now.

Steve Bannon presumably got rip-roaring drunk, and accused Mitt Romney of using his religious mission to dodge the draft.

Remind us Steve, how many student and medical deferments President Bone Spurs got? Five, wasn't it?

It doesn't matter. Just like it didn't matter with GW Bush. They do this all the time and it works. Yes, it makes no sense, but it always works.

Thanks for sharing this. Good explanation of how we got to where we are now with this issue.

From a Star Tribune article I just browsed:

"Under American law, the president must sign a waiver every six months that leaves the embassy in Tel Aviv. In June, Trump renewed the waiver, as a string of predecessors has done. This week, another six-month deadline passed without Trump renewing it.

U.S. officials say Trump will again sign the waiver but will also instruct the State Department on Wednesday to begin the multi-year process of moving the U.S. Embassy to the holy city. The officials say the recognition of Jerusalem as Israel's capital will be an acknowledgement of "historical and current reality" rather than a political statement but that moving the embassy will not happen immediately."

With the State Department in such disarray it's hard to imagine this getting done before Trump is voted out/resigns/impeached, but I guess we may find out.

I teach a class online...if anyone thinks you can handle State Department business that way they either are trolling or have no idea what an ambassador and their staff actually does.

Well by the time it is a problem at least one house of Congress will have flipped and there is a decent chance Chump isnt Prez. Guess who will get blamed...

All part of the plan. The GOP is a fine oiled machine and they set up everything to be like this and America falls for it. Pretty sad.

The best part is when it gets pointed out the GOP voters will then lambaste them for blaming the previous regime.

Meanwhile he is putting our allies in danger (after he already gave away their intel in the Oval Office) and Americans as well. I know he wants the Muslims to attack so he can put on a hard hat and pretend to be a great man (plus all it takes is one terrorist attack to get public opinion back on the side of keeping out dem Towelheads!!1!!) but this is a bit much even for him. I bet Kelly has a massive War Boner going on though...

Of course the Evangelicals love this because they can bring in lots of donations praying for the soldiers (and none of them will fight) and a war in Israel will bring about their Zombie Apocalypse. whats a few million dead Jews and Muslims right?
