Oh and I don't think there was a great solution here. Difficult position for Biden to be in. But I do know Trump would have been destroyed if he made the exact same decision.
He did. He was. So is Biden.

Sorry, was just highlighting a ridiculous post. Carry on.
He was trolling, almost certainly you directly.
He did. He was. So is Biden.
Was he? We didn't really hear anything when he set it all in motion, just on Biden now that he's actually carrying through. Remember when Obama released 5 Taliban for one US soldier and got raked over the coals; Trump released 5000 for nothing and not a fucking peep.

I think it's the images of seeing the Taliban in power, people trying to run on to planes etc. How quickly it happened (on that note I don't believe for a second we didn't know this was coming). Not the act of setting this all in motion. Not that Trump needs other reasons to be destroyed but he'd be taking a bigger beating in the media than Biden has.

Great input, Scooby. This board would be lost without you.
Sorry, that statement is a joke. The man should be in jail right now. Bare minimum. Instead he's golfing every day and living the good life of playboy millionaire. He is the poster child for the plutocrat class in the United States. He hasn't suffered one iota for any of the positively evil things he has done his entire life. But I do know Trump would have been destroyed if he made the exact same decision
The withdrawal from Afghanistan needed to happen. Trump started it, and Biden rightfully finished it. I give Trump credit for starting the process. What sucks is we didn’t get people out faster. I hope we are now. Biden and his administration deserve some blame for people unnecessarily dying since they’re in charge now, but it needed to be done.
That said, the media loves this stuff. Chaos and death are their cornerstones, and in this instance, writing stories about other world leaders questioning Biden’s ability to lead, as if Macron, Johnson, and others wanted four more years of Trump at the wheel. Biden is still a calming, steady presence, no matter what the headlines say. Yes, Trump would have caught flak, but I doubt the “Is Trump capable of leading? Are world leaders trusting of him?” type stories would have circulated. The answers were obviously “fuck no”, and therefore boring to write and not worthy of clicks.
That all said, I just hope the 5,000-7,000 people per day scheduled to evacuate continues to happen until everyone is out, Dunkirk-style.
I give them 0 credit for the complete disorganized cluster fuck they have made the withdrawl process. We should have started this in May.

arguing over who would get pilloried more for this is pointless.
From what I've read from non-screechy sources and people that spent substantial time there (and several have contacts involved in this), is that the collapse was immediate and began virtually the second they started pulling people in. If that's the case, no timeline would have changed the outcome. The Afghani government was a house of cards and any movement would topple it. Even if the Administration knew this (and maybe they did, maybe they didn't), what could they have done differently?
