POTUS 46.10: A New Hope

Would this trip to "hell" include you having the time and luxury to freely post on a college hockey website while living in our racist, homophobic, planet killing country? When the vast majority of the 8 Billion people in the world are just trying to find clean water and food. And remind us again on why 300,000+ of those world citizens, mostly non-white, are risking their lives EVERY MONTH to come to this racist H&!1 Hole?

Maybe you could enlighten the great unwashed with some of those facts.

I'm irrelevant. The fact that your responding with your stupid fucking drivel to the most irrelevant human being on Planet Earth is very telling. Maybe you should get some help.

He could also learn that "we're heading to hell" does not mean we are currently in hell, thus to word "to". But 2-sport lettermen didn't have time to pay attention in English class.

Whalers utterly misses the point. America is not a racist, homophobic, planet killing country. America is a good country, which still contains racist, homophobic, planet-killing conservatives.

But they are old and dying. Darwin abides.

And it's not really better in the "middle"- while a close person to me isn't a republican, they are a "both sides" person. Meaning that all of the incredibly bad things that R's have and are doing, D's are doing the same thing. So it's all broken.

For instance, R's are banning books in a lot f places, and since D's tried to change it in San Francisco- it's the same thing. Or that the uprising in the capitol is the same as protesting- you know, getting shot by the cops is the same as assaulting the capitol building.

No idea how they got data to be so convinced that it's the same thing to the same degree and the same loss of liberties- but they do.

I really try to not talk politics with them.

Watching Fox or OANN is self-selection, telling you they are morons. It bites if they are a relative, but for all that they are no less morons. I'm sure it is hardly a surprise and crops up in other places in their lives. Racists are, shockingly, also stupid with respect to other things.

You joke, obviously, but I had a discussion with my very conservative dad about Portland around the winter of 2020. He insisted that Portland was a smoking crater. I mentioned that I have friends that live in and around Portland (one lived downtime at the time), and I had checked with them after seeing the news, and all of them basically dismissed it as being grossly overstated. My dad didn't believe them. "Do they know everything that's happening? No." When I asked my dad how he knew better, from 3200 miles away, he pointed to the news and some video of riots.

People believe what they want.

And that's why I wrote that. Your dad isn't the only one.

And why is he raging at you for saying the very same thing his god Donnie has been wheezing for 8 years now?

Seems like he should be celebrating finding a common belief. Hilarious.

On second thought, we should be trying to sell that the US is going to hell, that way the right and people like whalers will try to convince us that the world and the country is getting better. All they can do is be opposite- nothing original.

Maybe he needs to resurrect those Reagan commercials from 1984, Its Morning Again In America. Call the question. Get people to really ask themselves real questions and get the f u ck away from the stupid questions where no one can back up their answers with anything factual.

Things that are still troubling now have been troubling for years. Decades. Since the adoption of the constitution in some cases. But the things we normally look at as an indicator of which way the political winds blow today are mostly trending positive. Quite positive in some ways. When we add jobs, lower unemployment, keep inflation in check and the price of gas drops ALL AT THE SAME TIME, that means the economy is performing as most Americans want it to perform. Yes we still leave far too many behind, but those people have been left behind for the entire lives of everyone alive. That isn't any different than the year 2000, or 1990, or 1980, or 1950.

I know the argument here is the polls are meaningless, and a part of me agrees with that. But it is troubling that not only is Biden trailing trump in some, mostly trustable, polls (at least as far as their past reputations and methodology), it is actually more troubling that he does not have a lead over trump that is similar to trump's lead over the rest of the field. He really SHOULD win this election with electoral college results AND popular vote totals like Nixon and LBJ did, seeing as he is likely facing an actual, real traitor. And for those who believe the polls should be considered totally meaningless, do any of you NOT believe trump is going to run the table in the primaries, just as the polls currently show?

I know many here believe the left is ascendant and the right is dying off. But look at the real picture. Sure, younger people are more open minded and close-minded bigots are old and getting older. But while the left makes slow movement, a foot or two here or there, an AOC or an effective Gretchen Whitmer there, fascists are getting ready to compromise nearly half -- or maybe even a little more than half -- of the electorate in another 10 months. Who would have said that when Newt Gingrich was the flavor of the day? Or even when the Tea Party first came on the scene. 75,000,000 people voted for a known grifter and the most corrupt president ever in 2020. When he revealed himself to be an actual flesh and blood traitor, they all doubled down and for nearly 4 years now we all knew his party was going to put him up again in 2024. THAT is half of your country my friends.

trump's first term was a disaster. The most corrupt and law-breaking president we have ever seen. Fortunately the damage was such that a few years of sanity could wash much of it away. If he wins a second term does anyone here not believe it will be exponentially worse? Whatever calamity awaits the world will make covid look like a mild winter cold. I really wish the lion's share of the anti-trump people were in the "by any means necessary" camp. When the time comes that they WISH they were, it will probably be too late.

I'd like to believe that would work.

Otoh, trump told them to drink bleach and they said "Yeah, seems reasonable"

The MAGAts are not the audience. Elections are won on the votes of people who start thinking about their choices a week before going to the polls. If you have an effective way of reaching them patent it because you'll be the first trillionaire.

Should Biden go all in? By that should be be sounding the alarm like Paul Revere? I thought 2020 was an existential election (and it kind of was) but nothing like 2024. Should Biden stick to the normal script and just tout the good stuff -- albeit more forcefully -- or should he be taking every opportunity to let American voters know that time is short and this is actually the election where democracy is either saved, or it dies as we have come to know it? He's danced around the periphery a bit here or there. But it doesn't seem to making the right headway.

Best way is to ramp up the pressure after the conventions. Its easy to hem and haw now because it is hypothetical make them think about what choice they will make in the booth. Make those clowns who think Charlemagne the Fraud and Joe Rogan are modern day Aristotles understand that even a protest vote is burning the house down to swat a fly.

I will say until Trump is the nominee maybe leave his name out of it...just keep focusing on what the non-Trump losers are saying because it is bizarre enough. That will tick him off and probably force him to go even nuttier if that is possible.

Not yet. People are becoming desensitized to it. Just keep reminding people what you have done even though the media ignores it. Keep going to MAGA districts that he helped rebuild (like in Boebert's district) and take all of the credit and ask why none of them are there to celebrate jobs and growth.

If he touts it as a threat to Democracy and what have you, the corporate media and the GOP will claim he's the boy who cried wolf. American voters are fucking stupid and shortsighted and will have already forgotten the "joys" of a Trump Presidency and are ready to vote for whatever or stay home since it "won't be that bad."

I'll agree that Biden will have 90 days (Aug/Sep/Oct) to hammer the points home with suburbanites who are oblivious to the actual happenings of the world until they are told to take notice. I'm fine with Biden just doing his own thing until then. As a whole, D's should push a "Rock the Vote" style initiative Ala 1992 and make sure young people and minorities get their voices heard. Specifically concentrate in purple areas like PA, MI, WI, and VA.

And you also have to acknowledge that the R's will continue to shoot themselves in the nuts by saying dumb shi+ almost daily. The stupid s*it will slowly peel off people in suburbia one by one as stuff is said that directly affects the suburbanites' lives. When those moments happen, shine a light on them for a moment and just say "Look how stupid this is!".

92% of the country has already made up their mind. As it stands, D's win in a narrow margin because the R's have become so toxic. But of that 8% still floating out there, a majority SHOULD fall to the D side of things. That's where the safety margin comes from.

If he does, he's got to stop talking about his "good friends across the aisle" and how he can work with them. He can't simultaneously be saying Trump wants to end democracy as we know it, and then praise all the Republicans in Congress who are supporting and enabling that very same thing. They're either a danger or they're not. Pick a side.

Biden should take footage of all the stuff Trump did, superimpose his face on it, and then send Mayor Pete and other attacks dogs to the media when all the stupid people claim it actually was Biden who did that. Then show the actual footage.

They should just have it all clipped and the second Trump is guaranteed to be the nominee release them as standalone shots and blanket TV with them. And any influencer (like say Joe Rogan or Charlamagne the God) who speaks out against Biden start clipping them too and put them next to Trump clips in the same commercial. Don't let people off the hook. Freedom of Speech is sacred, but it also gives you enough rope to hang yourself and it is time someone started doing it.

I mean Trump's rally last night was like a months worth of commercials on its own both for stupidity and fascism.

Certainly everyone except Biden should be. I don't know whether Biden should try to remain above it all. But he cannot make Obama's mistake and tell DOJ to go easy on the traitors for fear of appearing partisan. The Nazis will scream oppression anyway -- let 'em, they do not matter. Anti-democratic forces threatening our democracy deserve nothing except the very barest letter of the law. Beyond that, let's go Nazi Hunting now while we still can.
