POTUS 46.10: A New Hope

As far as I can see, if you are struggling under this economy, you are doing something wrong. We just finished a trip around the country, and the number of fellow travelers out there is staggering. Let alone out right now. Meaning there is a significant amount of extra income out there.

It’s not the economy, it’s you.

Reminds me how I see dumpy flags over businesses- why would you go out of your way to cut your customer base in half??? That’s not Ds, that’s your choice to cut your customers.

And can we really be shocked that with a more stable workforce that the signing bonuses that were required to get people to look at your openings a year ago are no longer required? To say this is gloom and doom is rather short sided.

And this “recession” we are in? Kinda hard to notice some massive turn down in 2023 that we were told was going to happen. If you want to keep looking for it, go for it. The rest of the country will just pass you by.

Another indicator, both of how good the economy is and how people can’t think. You all know we cruise a lot for travel. Right now, cruise prices are as high as we have ever seen.

Given that ships are sailing super full now, and have been since we restarted cruising in ‘22, it’s telling that there are so very many people with that much extra income that they are willing to pay a significant premium to cruise now.

But at the same time, people whine that cruising is more expensive so the economy must be tanking. Come on, people, ever heard of supply and demand???

It’s also really funny that the same people (who were and are avid covid deniers, btw) want to replace the cruise line CEOs for making too much money. Ultimate cancel culture there.

No, not really; not any more. It's just very difficult to develop an overall positivity when for every person something is always going wrong. If your dog dies you get depressed, so you think "things" are going poorly, so you blame Biden. You approve of each of the actual measures Biden has implemented. You aren't crazy so you don't think Biden killed your dog. But you're still not happy so "things are going in the wrong direction."

The Dems used to be awful but they are now by far the superior communicators. I am as amazed as you are. But people will, overall, always, grouse, so the incumbent always has a job overcoming that.

Now, luckily, we have a GOP who has to continually feed their moron monster, so as we get into electioneering the Dems will simply talk policy and let the GOP say the type of stuff that gets their base in a lather but repels everyone else.

This is 100% spot on.

Sorry but that hasn't been true for at least 3 cycles. Dems do fine people are just lazy and the media is even worse.

This is more true than not. The message is out there, and it is being put out there by plenty of democrats.

When will enough people realize that the problem is with the people and the voters? People are getting dumber and dumber by the year. With the right it's even worse. They grow dumber over a month or two the same amount people on the left need 2 or 3 years to achieve. But we are so much more stupid, collectively, now than we were 30 or 40 years ago.

Federal government keep your hands off my medicare. I hated Obama-care but man, don't you dare try to change the affordable care act. Biden's handling of the ecoomy sucks, but I notice inflation has dropped almost every month for over a year, and I love that the bridge out of town is getting rebuilt, and the raise I got this year is actually more than inflation is.

Any why won't the media acknowledge the recession with the 3.6% unemployment rate?1?!?1!?

I mostly agree with this, but isn't the first half kind of disproving your first half? Messaging isn't just getting the word out, it's effectively getting the word out and making sure that content is heard and resonates. That's where I think there are some disagreements over whether the dems suck or not.

Someone who does an excellent job addressing just this is Robert Reich. If you have not seen his videos they are on Youtube. I recommend all of them. I recommend sending them to people who send you the usual right wing talking points.

They are pithy, accessible, pragmatic, and as folksy as an economist is ever likely to get. They are little works of art of persuasion, and I wish they ran 24/7 on every public tv instead of the Fox Nazis network or the CNN let's be poutraged about anything except inequality circus.

No because the Dems could staple it to the faces of people and they would still not see it. You can only beat them over the head so much before it's just a waste of time.

In the end though enough people get it that they vote the right way. Plus it helps that the youth pay attention and the Olds are dying off.

The poll from before says it all. Sure they think Biden isn't doing great but they love what he's doing and he never stops reminding them he did it. His people get that most people dont put 2 and 2 together they just need to be happy they somehow got 4.

I bet Rover would disagree...he hated stuff like that ;^)

(Which again means you are right)

I use some of his stuff in my work. About 95% of the time he nails it so simply and perfectly it amazes me ANYONE could disagree with him, although I disagree with him on a point here or there, but since he is an acknowledged expert on economics and I only minored in it I don't verbalize that to my union members during meetings. I especially want to paint the picture that there are clearly experts out there who know their field top to bottom and front to back, and at the same time they have the real interests of an average everyday Joe at heart. Reich fits this perfectly. It galls me when I have to deal with people who think they understand the law more than I do where the employer/employee relationship is at hand. They don't. So I make sure people realize that Reich knows what he is talking about better than anyone else they are likely to be exposed to and hope they take it to heart.
