POTUS 45.7 - Has the left reached the acceptance stage yet?

Re: POTUS 45.7 - Has the left reached the acceptance stage yet?

Wait, they said they wanted the people to speak on the SC and more people voted for Hillary.

Or did they mean that they wanted to people to speak through the results of the Electoral College?

You can understand my confusion, since they basically completely made up the whole "can't confirm during an election year" rule and then changed it to the "can't appoint during an election year" rule, it's hard to truly understand what their bull**** and ever-changing rules on SC nominations are.
I despise the Republican Party. And I consider their handling of the Merrick Garland nomination to be particularly repugnant, even for them, which is saying a lot. However, people need to give up this popular vote v. Electoral College angle. It’s like saying that we’re playing one game but want to keep score using the rules of another game.

Do you know how much time and money the Republican Party spends on getting votes in CA? Very little. There’s no point to it if you’re playing by EC rules. Same with do you know how many Republicans in CA don’t bother to vote in Presidential elections because what’s the point? You could say the same thing about the Democrats spending time and money, and not voting, in Alabama and Mississippi. And you could also ask how many Democrats in CA don’t bother to vote in Presidential elections because, again, what’s the point. And yes, this might balance that out and something else might offset another thing but that’s the point, it would be a completely different game if we were going by popular vote. Campaigns would look vastly different, with wholly different strategies on where they spent their time and money. Basically, the focus would shift dramatically, you’d see the candidates in places like California and NY much more than you do now, and not in IA and NH nearly as much. How that would work out is anyone’s guess, but it would be different than how it works out now. Which is why pointing out that Hillary won the popular vote is about as relevant as telling someone your favorite color is blue.

Again, I couldn’t despise the Republican Party any more than I currently do, and Trump scares the crap out of me, he’s unhinged. But that doesn’t change the above.

I read a great point which was that the Merrick Garland nomination was a colossal blunder on Obama's part. It did nothing to inspire Dem supporters (and that's their fault that replacing Scalia wasn't good enough) but the prospect of blocking him and then appointing a hard core conservative allowed Goopers to overlook Trump's nuttiness and all jump on board.

I sorta agree with this. Dem voters are perfectly willing to p !ss away a SCOTUS takeover under the guise that 1) they're all bought and paid for by corporations anyway, or 2) those GOP appointed justices would NEVER DARE to roll back civil rights or abortion rights....would they? If one side is really committed (anti-abortion, gun rights, etc) and one side isn't, the committed people win.

(If you read into what I'm saying there, it has little to actually do with popular vs electoral and is rather mocking how easy it is to add twists to the GOP's rule that they pulled out of their *** 12 months ago.)

I dont buy it...if Obama had gone uber liberal nothing would have changed. The GOP still blocks it and the people who wouldnt vote for Hillary still wouldnt have.

I agree. No way the reaction would have been different. GOP will claim that anyone would have shifted the makeup of the court 5-4 in the other direction. So that couldn't happen under their watch and they were going to make sure of it since they were pretty sure they were about to win the white house.

I wonder how people are going to react when they realize the bombing in Afghanistan wasnt ordered by Trump (he had zero to do with the decision, gave no orders and had no clue it was happening it seems) but was ordered by the commander there. (because of rules Obama put in place) All that circle jerking and back slapping and the man wasnt even part of the process. Probably golfing...

They're not upset about spending taxpayer money. They're upset about how much of that money comes from the 1%. Big difference.

But what about all our Righty friends around here...I mean I know some of them are changing their shorts because we defunded Planned Parenthood but still! I remember all the snark about Obama's golfing...Trump is golfing more in his first 100 days than Obama did over the course of YEARS! Where are they all now?

We all understand they are massive hypocates.

It's bad when Obama almost kind of does something, it's ok when don does it multiple times.

Just like it was bad when Hillary *might* have exposed secrets, but is ok when don has a secure meeting in public.

Duh.

Party of no, party of hypocrites.
