We have a history in this country of treating property and financial crimes more harshly that killing a person. If they can be proven. Actually, I've seen more than a few respectable takes suggesting what Swansong did. We don't know and it was very interesting to see Chief Hamm's Justice statement, which wasn't really concurring or dissenting in the normal sense. It was sort of in SCOTUS opinion purgatory. Only thomas chose to dissent and sign his name to it.
