This is still weird to me. The Catholics I knew growing up were intellectual Neo--Thomist Catholics -- people who literally argue about how many angels fit on the head of a pin (this is actually an extremely important question in metaphysics, both in nominalism and also in the question of the nature of god, materiality, and existence, and I will cut a b-tch who makes fun of it). I never met dumb Catholics until I moved to Boston, and it still throws me. Kinda like dumb Jews -- I mean, yes, in theory I know they're out there, but... not really, right?
 
I prefer "Can G-d create a boulder so heavy that they cannot lift it?".

I know Jews that would give Terry Bradshaw a run for their money...

apparently the early draft of that letter was way meaner if Twitter is to be believed.

This past summer, my FIL called my SIL ANTIFA, trying to upset her. She's a registered and active GOP caucus attendee, but she's opposed Trump the whole while, and refused to vote for him in the generals. For the remainder of that month, back in July, a few of us called her Auntie Fah just to goad her dad.

I do reply that way. Actually, it's usually, "You understand the term ANTIFA actually means 'anti-fascists.' Why aren't we all?"

My BIL is a sheriff's deputy, and our FIL likes to open many conversations, "Any new reports on ANTIFA activity?" My BIL will reply with some variant on Nope, nothing here. Then I remind our FIL that ANTIFA, per the FBI and other federal agencies, has never been identified as a group or organization, just a term for people who are - get this - against fascism. It's an odd dynamic to start family gatherings.

What’s interesting is the far righties on my wife’s side have actually been reaching out for more info. They asked for what are considered better sources of news and info.

On one hand *ugh, really* on the other, it’s very good to see them come back from the edge.
