It will never happen because I think the GOP would assassinate him before they would let him screw up that badly.

The GOP would love it if Dump burst into flame on live teevee. They only fear their fingerprints on it.

If McConnell could have anything for a day he'd give us 67 Dem Senators to convict Dump for a capital crime and put him on Death Row in a cell with Dylann Roof (they would like each other). As long as his caucus got to vote lockstep for acquittal.

They're Republicans. And many with so many issues being closeted that drives their political behavior.

That would be a moment in history that people will talk about 40 years from now. I mean just the thought of it is enough to make me drool. Him walking in with that stupid faux cocky strut of his and that constipated look on his face. Him sitting down pointing to all his sycophants in the Senate. The growing smile of arrogance as his lawyers hold his hand walking him through questions and stopping him from saying something stupid. The sigh of relief will be audible when they finish...and then the Dems take over and every sphincter on the Right tightens. [insert Lady G. joke here]

I have this image of A Time to Kill only instead of rapey Kevin Spacey trapping Samuel L. Jackson into admitting the rednecks deserved to die it will be Trump. A slow build of questions and then Trump yelling out "Yes I wanted them to stop the count by any means necessary!".

It will never happen because I think the GOP would assassinate him before they would let him screw up that badly.

Trump testifying would be spectacular tv, but it would look nothing like you describe.

Every question would be followed with a long, disconnected soliloquy from Trump about how the election was stolen from him, blah, blah, blah. Then, the Dems would be irate because he didn't answer the question, and he'd just launch into virtually the same blather. Wash, rinse, repeat, until people would get tired of it.

It would be sort of like on LivePD when they pulled over a sovereign citizen.

Well I left that part out because it is obvious. I fast forwarded to the end ;^)

I would watch just to see the look on Cruz and Hawley's face when they realize he has gone too far.

Cute you think there’s still a too far.

I think you too are misunderstanding my comment. Not to far for them...he could shoot them and they would thank him for it. Think about when Trump used to have his little media sessions. There was always a point where even his believers standing with him would go "yikes he should not have said that out loud!". They still agreed with it just know that won't play well.

Cruz and Hawley would have that look. They would still kiss his butt and applaud him, but they know some things can't be said.

If we do not hold trump accountable to the full extent of both legislative and criminal actions allow, what are we saying?

For those who believe that doing so just increases the likelihood that we get into a never ending cycle of impeachments whenever opposite parties hold the congress and the White House I would say consider this: If the republicans (or the democrats for that matter) are so petty and beholden to party over country, we don't really have a country anyway. My suspicion is that cat is out of the bag and this country is dead already, it is just continuing to move out of pure inertia. But in the event it isn't, our only real hope at making progress is to hold people accountable.

I don't believe for two seconds trump will be convicted by the Senate after his 2nd impeachment trial. In fact my guess is fewer than 5 senators will vote to impeach. I also don't believe for two seconds trump is going to pay with his freedom for the many, many crimes he committed, both as president and before January 20th, 2017. But if we want a country worth living in, we should make him pay.

The Lincoln Project apparently had a predator in their midst the whole time.

Their response was excellent, I think. "F this guy, he's a monster and has been lying for years. We're better than this and won't have any of this on our team."

I honestly expected a mealy mouthed bit of garbage about how they want all the information and would withhold judgement and blah blah blah.

Trying to figure out Lindsey Graham's "threat" to call witnesses if the Democrats call one. Seems like the "Heads I win, tails you lose", but reverse. He threatened to bring in the FBI to testify, like that's going to help the GOP.

He is holding EMAILS! and HUNTER cards and god knows what else. Be afraid.

He didn’t say that his witnesses would be truthful.

Lindsey may just have gone soft in the head.

The truth is on our side. The more transparency the better. Bring it on.

How the Nazis almost got away with institutionalizing massive, permanent electoral fraud.

I strongly suspect that in the end fewer than one thousand career bureaucrats across the entire USG stopped the Nazis from ending democracy. Dr. Mrs. is one of them. Somebody should collect all their stories someday. Maybe publish them the day the GOP is banned under whatever the Smith Act is called now.

These people are heroes and I am proud to be married to one.

This is pure bluster. Not one senator wants to testify. The Republicans absolutely do not, and even Hawley isn't so stupid as to think they would be able to call Senator Democrat and not have Senator Insurrectionist called too.

This is a great piece. Bonus episode: Inside the craziest meeting of the Trump presidency

For weeks now, ever since Rudy Giuliani had commandeered Trump’s floundering campaign to overturn the election, outsiders had been coming out of the woodwork to feed the president wild allegations of voter fraud based on highly dubious sources.

Trump was no longer focused on any semblance of a governing agenda, instead spending his days taking phone calls and meetings from anyone armed with conspiracy theories about the election. For the White House staff, it was an unending sea of garbage churned up by the bottom feeders.

Powell began this meeting with the same baseless claim that now has her facing a $1.3 billion defamation lawsuit: She told the president that Dominion Voting Systems had rigged their machines to flip votes from Trump to Biden and that it was part of an international communist plot to steal the election for the Democrats.

[Note: In response to a request for comment, Powell said in an emailed statement to Axios: “I will not publicly discuss my private meetings with the President of the United States. I believe those meetings are privileged and confidential under executive privilege and under rules of the legal profession. I would caution the readers to view mainstream media reports of any such conversations with a high degree of discernment and a healthy dose of skepticism.”]

White House staff had spent weeks poring over the evidence underlying hundreds of affidavits and other claims of fraud promoted by Trump allies like Powell. The team had done the due diligence and knew the specific details of what was being alleged better than anybody. Time and time again, they found, Powell's allegations fell apart under basic scrutiny.

But Powell, fixing on Trump, continued to elaborate on a fantastical election narrative involving Venezuela, Iran, China and others. She named a county in Georgia where she claimed she could prove that Dominion had illegally flipped the vote.

Herschmann interrupted to point out that Trump had actually won the Georgia county in question: "So your theory is that Dominion intentionally flipped the votes so we could win that county?"

As for Powell's larger claims, he demanded she provide evidence for what — if true — would amount to the greatest national security breach in American history. They needed to dial in one of the campaign's lawyers, Herschmann said, and Trump campaign lawyer Matt Morgan was patched in via speakerphone.

By now, people were yelling and cursing.

The room was starting to fill up. Trump's personal assistant summoned White House staff secretary Derek Lyons to join the meeting and asked him to bring a copy of a 2018 executive order that the Powell group kept citing as the key to victory. Lyons agreed with Cipollone and the other officials that Powell's theories were nonsensical.

Flynn went berserk. The former three-star general, whom Trump had fired as his first national security after he was caught lying to the FBI (and later pardoned), stood up and turned from the Resolute Desk to face Herschmann.

"You're quitting! You're a quitter! You're not fighting!” he exploded at the senior adviser. Flynn then turned to the president, and implored: "Sir, we need fighters."

Herschmann ignored Flynn at first and continued to probe Powell's pitch with questions about the underlying evidence. "All you do is promise, but never deliver," he said to her sharply.

Flynn was ranting, seemingly infuriated about anyone challenging Powell, who had represented him in his recent legal battles.

Finally Herschmann had enough. "Why the **** do you keep standing up and screaming at me?" he shot back at Flynn. "If you want to come over here, come over here. If not, sit your *** down." Flynn sat back down.

The article is very lengthy and detailed so impossible to quote all the important pieces here. Suffice it to say Trump did have a few legit people around him willing to tell him the truth, but too many sycophants and grifters feeding his fat ego over and over again.
