They don't have to care about this vote, but they probably do care whether their dump base will be able to carry them in their next election, because this 1/06 shyt is apparently causing Rs to jump ship in big numbers. Not sure I believe that will be a big factor in 2 or 4 years, though.

It's not about them. They don't matter. What is important is drawing the line between acceptable human conduct and virulent Nazi buffoonery.

The end game is not to drag these apes up into humanity. That is impossible; they have been the way they are since Babylon. The end game is containment, quarantine, erasure.

Trump will walk, the Nazis will get worse and half the country will support it. None of the Senators who are insulting the Constitution will have any repercussions in fact they will probably be in stronger position. During the break the GOP were almost laughing about what was going on. They don't care because they won't be affected. Their voters want them not to care.

This is not a pivot point, in fact it is just added to the National Disgrace that was 1/6. And there is no recourse for it.

You speak in abstractions man but WE don't get to fix this problem. Their voters want this so unless you want to change your zip code WE are at the mercy of THEM.

Cruz and Hawley wont be up til 2024. They will be re-elected because it is a Presidential. (unless they are the Pres Nominee)

Rand Paul is up in 2022 but its Kentucky.

As long as they back Trump they are locks.

Personally I wish the House Managers would call them out for their disrespect. A judge would destroy a jury for acting this way.

Why can't the cameras pan to them to show their lack of giving a fuck to the people who may be watching?
 
When is NY going to file charges against Trump? I thought they were just waiting till he was out of office. He's out. Do something!!
 
I'm not convinced that a good % of that 74 million won't shy away from anyone associated with the Trump cult. Not enough for my liking, but I know personally a handful of folks that have woke up. Not enough to go full on blue, but enough to admit Trump, Qanon, Flynn and their ilk are dangerous and won't support anyone in that circle ever again.
 
Outside of presidential elections, how often are the players polling their voters--players meaning individual senators, the RNC, DNC, etc. Aren't those fingers in the wind at all times when they decide what path to take in matters such as this impeachment?
 
WRT the next elections- what will be the most interesting is if companies keep their pledge to not support the people who voted against on 1/6. Given the pressure for many of these national companies- they can't alienate over half of their potential customers by supporting sedition.

If anything will be problem for many, it will be the lack of corporate support. Heck, even the Koch bros have pledged no more.

Yeah - saw an article that % of registered GOPs who have favorable rating of GOP has dropped from 90% to 78%.

My fear is that the 12% who are disillusioned with the GOP are because it's not Trumpy enough...

I can't find the term of his contract, but Fox seems to be content to have removed him and then pay him not to let him on the air. This is fairly common in media when a personality/host/anchor is fired.

I forget where I read the story, but the GOP has hemorrhaged 130-140K registered voters since January 6. The people interviewed pointed directly to that event as the cause for them to become unaffiliated or independent voters. Only about half of the states require voters to register with a party, or as unaffiliated, so the number is likely larger. There have been consequences.

All Cruz and Hawley would do is yell back at the House Managers about what a waste of time this is. Leahy isn't going to hold them in contempt or whatever an actual judge would do.

CSPAN usually has a camera fixed on them but just like in the first Impeachment Trial that wasn't allowed. (part of the negotiations)

I hope you are right...but switching party affiliation /= voting against the GOP. It is one thing when that happens in Arizona because that flipped Blue because of Trump and the AZGOP has gone 110% Trump now...but until I see it I won't believe any Republican votes against the Party.

I have seen a lots of stories about people "leaving". (CaliGOP is having that issue right now) An Independent can still vote for Devin Nunes and likely will and he is balls deep in Trump.

Hey if you are all right (and I pray to whoever you are!) then the Midterms should be a bloodbath for the GOP. The House should become stronger Dem and the Senate should at least hold and likely swing big enough that Manchin is worthless. Honestly right now keeping Congress is what I care about cause a divided Government makes 2024 a massive headache.

BTW the video of the cop stopping Romney from almost getting caught by the rioters was nuts.
