POTUS 45.6 - Russia Is Just A Witch Hunt

Re: POTUS 45.6 - Russia Is Just A Witch Hunt

Ryan is right

If one wrecks their car often they pay more insurance than safe drivers.

If one makes claims on their home owners the same happens in comparison to one who does not with premiums.

But with the health stuff you pay more if you make more, not if you are sickly as an "insurance" normally works.

Mookie has gone over this enough. This need to be called "coverage" or "security". Just like we have pro choice to call ourselves instead of pro-death (anti of pro-life).

Let's not make it insurance. It is social security. A well. Intended ponzi scheme. Same for health.

Ryan et al should be trying to control costs now. Lawsuit reform. Eliminate all those needless tests. Getting costs of drugs down.

Ask unofan about the claim that frivolous tort claims are clogging the courts and driving up the cost of our personal and business lives.

There aren't any more frivolous claims now than there were decades ago, at least on a per capita basis. The difference is people survive the malpractice now, and it costs a helluva lot more to pay for 30 years of ongoing medical care than it does a wrongful death settlement.

And oh, by the way, that goes out the door with single payer coverage, because the 30 years of ongoing medical care would already be provided.

Same with our vets. So many from The first Gulf war and Bush's Iraq folly have survived wounds that in past wars would have killed them, but at the cost of devastating life-long medical issues, that will require millions of dollars to treat.

Credit where's it's due: the f-ckstick is still under 50% unfavorable and we're already 50 days into this 1,461-day deathmarch.

The cost of trauma related medical care is nothing compared to the cost of treating chronic conditions caused by consumption of tobacco and sugar. Sugar alone. We invade countries, spend untold billions, and toss fundamental constitutional protections to the scrap heap in response to the threat of terrorist acts that may affect dozens or hundreds per year, yet promote the sale and consumption of sugared drinks and foods that do kill and injure millions each and every year. The folks holding the strings know how to create boogeymen.

I've got news for you, kid. There's no St. Clown Social Security Fund, either. Yes, they'll send you a statement in paper, but when it comes time for you to get your SS check that comes from taxing some 20-something.

From the perspective of how the money is actually handled, they are identical cases.

I've got news for you, I'm under no delusions on that either.

Seriously, you've never before heard the phrase "socialize the risk" in an insurance context?

Socializing the risk isn't the same as socialism, and you know that.

The ACA was just one big payoff for the Baby Boomers. Those Baby Boomers who own stock in the health insurance companies (majority of stockholders are over a certain age...) got a bump in their ROI, and those who don't own stock got a reduction in their insurance premiums, which the stockholders also enjoyed. That generation was greatly involved in twisting the health insurance markets back in the late 70s and early 80s, a period when we kept adding more and more requirements on to each minimum insurance plan, driving up their costs, and now they're suddenly reaping a rate reduction as the premiums are shifted the young squirts.

Even better.

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said Thursday that he did not know whether President Donald Trump had known that Mike Flynn worked as a foreign agent in a capacity that may have benefitted the Turkish government during the presidential campaign.

On Tuesday, Flynn and his firm registered with the Justice Department for $530,000 of lobbying work from August through November 2016 that "could be construed to have principally benefited the Republic of Turkey."

“I don't believe that that was known,” Spicer told Fox News' John Roberts during a press briefing, saying Roberts should talk to Flynn or the Department of Justice.

There's another quote from Spicey, not sure if it was the same conference, which seems doubtful considering what he said here, but he said,"This is what he did for a living".

So, either they didn't know he was an agent of a foreign government when they vetted him to come work for the campaign and subsequently, NSA, which speaks to their due diligence, or they did know and just didn't care.

Neither one is comforting.

From Rolling Stone:
http://www.rollingstone.com/politic...minefield-for-democrats-and-the-media-w471074

Thus we are now witnessing the extremely unusual development of intelligence sources that normally wouldn't tell a reporter the time of day litigating a matter of supreme importance in the media. What does this mean?

Hypothesize for a moment that the "scandal" here is real, but in a limited sense: Trump's surrogates have not colluded with Russians, but have had “contacts,” and recognize their political liability, and lie about them. Investigators then leak the true details of these contacts, leaving the wild speculations to the media and the Internet. Trump is enough of a pig and a menace that it's easy to imagine doing this and not feeling terribly sorry that your leaks have been over-interpreted.

If that's the case, there are big dangers for the press. ... build up a fever of expectations for a bombshell reveal, but there turns out to be no conspiracy – Trump will be pre-inoculated against all criticism for the foreseeable future.

The press has to cover this subject. But it can't do it with glibness and excitement, laughing along to SNL routines, before it knows for sure what it's dealing with. Reporters should be scared to their marrow by this story. This is a high-wire act and it is a very long way down. We might want to leave the jokes and the nicknames be, until we get to the other side – wherever that is.
