Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

This is interesting:

If some garden variety GOP senator had gone off on this rant I doubt he’d have survived it. So what we’re seeing here is not only the white nationalist grievance politics that Trump has made explicit and open and really at the core on present-day GOP politics. Just as much and perhaps more this episode is an example of the ‘leader principle’ at the heart of the Trump GOP. If Trump says it, the GOP will fall in line behind him, either with cowed silence or explicit assent, usually trending from the former to the latter. That applies to really anything Trump says. No matter what.

What we’re seeing here is more the authoritarianism of Trumpism than the racism, though of course it’s both. Like all personality cult political movements, party or movement ideology is defined by what the leader is saying on that given day. Think about Trump/GOP policy today on North Korea and how mind-bogglingly different that is from anything any Republican has said over decades or what Trump himself was saying until he decided to switch. The limits of the acceptable or standards of behavior are defined simply by what the leader does. Period.

In the Origins of Totalitarianism Arendt says similar things about how fascism works:

“In an ever-changing, incomprehensible world the masses had reached the point where they would, at the same time, believe everything and nothing, think that everything was possible and that nothing was true. ... Mass propaganda discovered that its audience was ready at all times to believe the worst, no matter how absurd, and did not particularly object to being deceived because it held every statement to be a lie anyhow. The totalitarian mass leaders based their propaganda on the correct psychological assumption that, under such conditions, one could make people believe the most fantastic statements one day, and trust that if the next day they were given irrefutable proof of their falsehood, they would take refuge in cynicism; instead of deserting the leaders who had lied to them, they would protest that they had known all along that the statement was a lie and would admire the leaders for their superior tactical cleverness.”

“Before mass leaders seize the power to fit reality to their lies, their propaganda is marked by its extreme contempt for facts as such, for in their opinion fact depends entirely on the power of man who can fabricate it.”

“To them, violence, power, cruelty, were the supreme capacities of men who had definitely lost their place in the universe and were much too proud to long for a power theory that would safely bring them back and reintegrate them into the world. They were satisfied with blind partisanship in anything that respectable society had banned, regardless of theory or content, and they elevated cruelty to a major virtue because it contradicted society’s humanitarian and liberal hypocrisy.”

I can't help you there. Even in the best of times people from the Dakotas and Minnesota rarely look upon anyone from Wisconsin or Iowa as being sensible or sane.

Well, you guys are all Hatfields and McCoys, from Cincinnati to Deadwood.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

This is interesting:

You know Kep, I do appreciate your scholarly posts a lot more than I let on. And I do see the reasoning behind the "strong man" theory of why Republicans have repudiated everything they allegedly believed in over the past 50 years to please Cheeto Jesus. However, I don't agree because I believe the entire modern Republican party has its foundations in racial animus. What Chump has done is taken the power away from Corporate toadies like Itch McConnell and Weasel Paul Ryan, and given it back to David Duke disciples who always made up 90% of the party anyway but who used to be content with being fed crumbs from party leaders. I suspect this is because they thought a David Duke type could never actually be elected. Trump shattered that notion when he crushed in the primaries every Koch Bros automaton of every stripe (Kasich, Walker, Paul, Christie, Jebbers, etc). White supremacy has been in the DNA of the GOP for as long as I've been alive and I'm no spring chicken. The only difference is instead of being an undercurrent of the party's reason to be, its now front and center, and will remain so for a long, loooong time.

God I hope not.

Try to ignore the extremely noisy minority here. The family I have that lives in her district are nearly all Jewish, voted for her, and will again. If he manages to get Minnesota (he won't) it wouldn't be because of the 5th district.

Kep, I have a feeling this man honed his craft in flyover country for a few years because this is peak Midwest Passive Aggressiveness.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Our <a href="https://twitter.com/JvittalTV?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">@JVittalTV</a> on Thursday questioned Kentucky Senator Rand Paul about his objection to an attempt to quickly pass a bill ensuring the 9/11 Victim Compensation Fund never runs out of money. Here is video of their exchange. <a href="https://t.co/Dxx3yEnGlp">pic.twitter.com/Dxx3yEnGlp</a></p>— Spectrum News NY1 (@NY1) <a href="https://twitter.com/NY1/status/1151987487448784898?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 18, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

*edit* Apparently not. A stint in Elmira and Connecticut, but mostly NYC. Huh.

In what I'm sure will come as a complete and utter shock to everyone here, Trump has cancelled his appearance at the upcoming NAACP convention.

Now he talks about reducing debt

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

Nice planet.

George Nader, a man who served as a key witness in special counsel Robert Mueller’s probe into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, faces new charges of child pornography, sex trafficking and obscenity.

He has pleaded not guilty, according to The Washington Post. The trial is slated for September and Judge Leonie M. Brinkema of the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Virginia did not allow him to leave on bail, citing “the nature of the charges and [his] extensive overseas connections,” the Post reported Friday.

According to The Daily Beast, which first reported Nader’s new indictment ahead of its unsealing, the new charges stem from Nader allegedly having sex with a 14-year-old boy he transported from Europe.

He already faces charges of transportation with child pornography for allegedly traveling with illegal material on his phone in 2018. He was arrested last month upon returning to the U.S. and remains in custody in Virginia.

Nader, an informal adviser to the United Arab Emirates’ crown prince, had ties to several of President Donald Trump’s aides. Nader appears multiple times in the Mueller report, which said he served as a liaison for high-level officials in the Middle East and Russia trying to connect with the Trump campaign.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

Going to be very interesting to see how Minnesota plays out.

No it isnt. Why you fall for this crap every year I will never know. He couldnt even beat Hillary here no chance he beats a candidate this state actually supports.

But please...name your bet.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

I heard a story this a.m. that the GOP muckety mucks basically took Pence by the keister and threw him at Dump and told him if he didn't walk it back they were all going lose in 2020. It's second nature for Dump to lie and for his followers we have always been at war with Eastasia so it was no biggie for him.

I told you...hinting is one thing but out an out saying what he said (and allowing the chants at the rally) is a bridge too far. Since none of them had the balls to call him out in public for it every one of the campaign managers were saying "you realize you now gave your opponent absolute proof you are a racist coward" and suggested they go after him in private. Its too late though the genie is out of the bottle they are all on record...often on VIDEO looking like cowards.

The attack ads next year are gonna be crazy...

LOL.

Yes, he could not beat Hillary. And it wasn't California either. Should have been but it wasn't. And last I checked the Governor's district went GOP. And when Peterson retires that's going GOP as well. And, what I am most interested in watching is Craig and Phillips districts. Why? Cause they're mushy middle districts and the Democrats have gotten nothing done since they took over the House. Nothing.

What I hope happens, and what is likely to happen, and what I assume you're banking on is it's a Presidential year, they won't vote for Trump, and they'll pick the Democrat down ballot. I wouldn't count on that. Not in those districts.

Re: POTUS 45:55: Wow, @CNN RATINGS HAVE CRASHED. LOST ALL CREDIBILITY!

Well, although I don't think it is in play necessarily I do find it fascinating that there is an article or an op ed or commentary in the paper where the State GOP is talking like it is in play. And in those articles or op-eds or commentaries they are very "rosy" about their chances in Minnesota. And then you see the President's tweet this morning and he thinks it's in play.

So, either, they feel that writing all this stuff and telling reporters that they think Minnesota is winnable is in their best interests, or they really believe it.

Not sure which.

Meanwhile, out in California, the GOP has completely checked out. You know. The State that didn't vote for Mondale.

Scooby,

They put those articles and stories and quotes out every 4 years. We literally had this conversation in 2016 and I believe dx and I did in 2012. The MNGOP does this every election and the Strib allows it because the Strib knows they need people to think Minnesota will be in play so they sell more papers. Plus, the Strib doesnt like that, amongst conservatives, they are considered the "Star and Sickle". It hurts their bottom line.

Look, if Walz had lost his election and if Tina Smith had lost hers I might be inclined to believe this time it could happen. None of that occurred even though the local GOP seemed pretty confident it would. (same op-eds and commentary were floating around) That is because the MNGOP knows, as does the Strib, that if the metro areas vote the numbers favor the Dems. Minneapolis and its suburbs are overwhelmingly Blue. (yes some of them go Red but it isnt really close) Saint Paul is too though to a lesser extent. Add in a few other good Blue holds and it just doesnt work out well for the Red.

Locally things may go Red, but in the bigger elections you are not going to see Minnesota brand itself with what the current GOP is. No Trumpian will be Governor or Senator. (especially after the disaster TPaw was as a Dubya Disciple) Rep sure cause that is a smaller election but for the time being Minnesota will not be Wisconsin.

My parents live in Phillips district...its fine. He will be re-elected. Hell I havent even heard of a real viable candidate against him and if they align with Trump they are out. Even the old people (where my parents live ;) ) wont go Trump because of Health Care and other such things he rails against.

And who cares if the Governor's district went Red...the Governor is Blue. And Walz aint going anywhere for a while.

Well, I care about every seat. But I get your point. Ads are going to be entertaining. I have a feeling Trump is going to campaign here a lot.

<------- Jew who voted for her (as did every Jew he knows in her district all of whom will again) and will again forever unless someone better comes along which would be nearly impossible.

The 5th is going to be blue for a long time. I mean lets be honest District 5 has a history of this:

Well I mean only a loser would wear a Sioux jersey so it makes sense I guess...

Off topic but I was talking to a buddy who went to UND. He doesnt really care about hockey but all of his friends from college do and he jokingly said "Go *** Hawks" to them after they wont the title right after the name change and they ****ed near killed him for it. He mocked and ridiculed them more than I usually do. Now he refuses to call them the Sioux cause he just loves how bitter they are :D
