Re: POTUS 45:54: My Polls Are Better Than Your Polls

so what?
as discussed numerous times already, people freely use political titles for their own use and definitions. if you do it enough, it catches on en mass. maybe tD starts something here :)

Yeah, except that this is just another example of how unaware this pres is. It has been reported by people close to him that he does not read. Tillerson stated his attention span is so short he had adjust his briefing process accordingly.

He has no curiosity because he doesn't care about anything but himself. If he's your kind of pres, I guess all that is fine.

That’s a really pathetic explanation of him

I don't agree with the firing, but I understand it. Personally, my thoughts are if they weren't comfortable with the cartoon, don't publish it. But as much as I agree with it, I get why it would lead to harsher fallout. That was a very raw photo. It will probably win the Pulitzer, but the average American does not want to be reminded of that connection to the president who they elected. And newspapers are corporate entities so how to the average American these days.

It's a great cartoon. He will certainly be hired elsewhere by someone with a different audience and/or more guts.

BTW, a cartoonist who can draw? I didn't know that was still a thing. :-)

A historic week: first US President to assault a woman in a department store changing room and visit North Korea.
Another photo op punctuated by yet another Trump lie about Obama. Just another day in TrumpWorld.
<blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-lang="en"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Trump is lying. I was there for all 8 years. Obama never sought a meeting with Kim Jong Un. Foreign policy isn’t reality television it’s reality.</p>— Ben Rhodes (@brhodes) <a href="https://twitter.com/brhodes/status/1145195167881633792?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 30, 2019</a></blockquote>

Kim must be thrilled to have brought a U.S. president onto DRNK soil. Probably means the NK organizers/negotiators won't be executed this time.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Cartoonist Michael DeAdder was just fired from the newspaper for this cartoon. <a href="https://t.co/PhpkH5FbcO">pic.twitter.com/PhpkH5FbcO</a></p>— Jason Chatfield (@Jason_Chatfield) <a href="https://twitter.com/Jason_Chatfield/status/1145091713226170368?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">June 29, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

So basically people get fired for what they THINK now? Presumably there is an editor of the media outlet where his cartoons originate, and the editor could have said, "sorry Mike, that cartoon is just too edgy, raw and upsetting. Maybe tone the image down, or go with another idea, because we're not gonna print that." Instead, he gets fired? OK, got it.

To anyone "offended" by that cartoon, I have only one thing to say:

Re: POTUS 45:54: My Polls Are Better Than Your Polls

I saw it last night on Twitter, and now I can't find it, but there was a much more aggressive cartoon that was published in the same vein where it's the same premise, but instead of having the unrealistic nicety of asking to play through, it's Trump teeing off next to the dead body.

Yes, that one came from a cartoonist in Australia. He presumably won't be blackballed for it.

It's the new America. No one can simply disagree with someone else. That someone else has to be silenced, period.

Not silenced, but definitely opened to criticism, ridicule, hate mail, doxxing, deplatforming, termination of employment, etc. Free speech has consequences, and society isn't obligated to provide you with a soapbox to stand on.

I really wish doxxing was somehow illegal. Despicable practice.

Yes. And we dont know the whole story as to why he was fired...maybe he had been warned previously or had other issues and this was the final straw.

Personally I dont think the cartoon is that big of a deal (I wouldnt have fired him for it) but I also am not really all that upset the employer fired him for it. They printed it so they didnt infringe on his right to free speech and they fired him because apparently there was a backlash. News at 11 guy causes controversy and loses job over it...also it gets very hot in the summer time!

I know the Twitterverse is always looking for their next outrage but maybe take a break until the next rich white lady calls the cops on black kids playing double dutch in the street or something.

This I would agree with. Home address is treated as HSPII by any HR department, and deliberately putting that information out on social media without someone's consent should be prosecuted as harassment.

Now if the address is publicly available, like the HQ of a company on their website, that's another matter.

It should be far worse than harassment. Harassment is such a slap on the wrist. I’d prosecute it as making terroristic threats. You only put that information out there to enable those threats. It’s meant to induce terror. **** those people. It’s like swatting; I’d prosecute that as attempted murder every time.

This is how the right has always operated. There's nothing new about it.
