POTUS 45:53: I Didn't Appoint That Judge So It Doesn't Matter.

Re: POTUS 45:53: I Didn't Appoint That Judge So It Doesn't Matter.

It's the other way around! Tax avoidance by the rich led to both the debt and the explosion of inequality. The national debt basically is the money the rich haven't paid in taxes since 1981. Inequality is driven by both this and also all the policy choices the rich have foisted on the rest of us by owning Congress.

This isn't that hard, man. They paid fewer taxes so they kept more money so they had more money to bribe politicians so they paid fewer taxes.

Please don't tell me this is the first you've heard of this. It is the fiscal dynamic of the United States.

This is a bit simplistic Kep but it fits into your victimhood meme. Yes the rich have benefitted tremendously from tax breaks but that's not the entirety of the deficit. The last time the public tasted austerity was under the Carter administration and you were old enough to remember how they reacted to it. Simply put Americans would not accept a climb down from the lifestyle they had come to expect post-WWII even after this country stopped manufacturing things and was no longer energy self sufficient (the 70's). So they turned to an actor who told them they could still have nice shiny things but not have to pay for them. Its easy to say "the plutes the plutes THE PLUTES!" all day but that's not reality. Far too many average joe's were in on the scam too because they didn't want to pay the toll. Everybody loves defense spending in their own district Kep, even....(gasp) Saint Bernie of Vermont!!! (F-35 fighter jet, anyone?)

What a crock of pure ****ing garbage.

Ya know, I can just go back to making fun of you if you prefer. Either way works for me. ;)

Here, I'll help you with part of it. This is from Elizabeth Warren's Facebook.

I struggled for years to juggle my family and my teaching job. The constant search for good, affordable child care nearly knocked me out. Luckily, my Aunt Bee stepped in to help. But not every family has an Aunt Bee – and that’s why I’m fighting for #UniversalChildCare.

Name one plute that even had to think about how they were going to get and pay for childcare.

Re: POTUS 45:53: I Didn't Appoint That Judge So It Doesn't Matter.

It's mostly a combination of tax breaks for the wealthy and war spending.

This is the old R trick. To Bumblef-ck America, anything short of a complete capitulation to the rich = "Socialism" = "Communism" = "Satanism" = black guys DP'ing their daughter* while raiding their bank account.

* And she likes it. Won't someone think of the children?

Why wouldn't she like it? All them black guys got ginormous caulks.

That obscurantism gets us climate denial.

Experts matter. In fact, they're the only people who do. Everybody else is just talking out of their as-s.

The denial of expertise in favor of common sense and the man in the street is just pandering to the numerous boobs who think they're smarter and better informed than they really are. You wanna say "f-ck them" to somebody so badly? Well, f-ck them! Not the people who actually know something. Those people we should sit down, shut up, and listen to. Science and peer review is the only thing that has ever worked. Everything else is either mysticism or sales.

So no one but experts should ever speak? Shut down the board then.
You claim Hollywood should shut up...they have just as much right to speak as you do.
But those who say the Trumpers will listen to no one anyway...that goes double for experts.
So again...who cares if Hollywood has an opinion.

Well he is a conservative republican, he’s admitted that on here. Of course he doesn’t want a shift left. That’s why I never got why anyone yells at him about being a centrist. There are centrists out there, he’s just not one.

What??? He's a centrist. He'll tell you so. He's too smart to be labeled. Way smarter than all them folk out on the fringes. Common sense solutions and all that.Nibble around at the edges, but don't try anything too ambitious. Never work, don't even attempt it.

He's the white bread and yellow mustard of politics.

That money is plowed right back into biasing policy in favor of the rich. That means bad things happen and as importantly it means an enormous opportunity cost for all the good things that don't happen.

You're basically arguing policy doesn't matter. That's almost as inane as arguing that expertise doesn't matter.

This has not been a good day for you.

Policy does matter...but not in the abstract.
Scooby wants to scream about 27 trillion...cite examples on how it personally affects him.
He can't/won't so it's all just screaming into the wind.
People care when it gets personal...not just that it affects "people."
All politics is local.

Re: POTUS 45:53: I Didn't Appoint That Judge So It Doesn't Matter.

It's mostly a combination of tax breaks for the wealthy and war spending.

None of which would occur in such high volumes if anybody really felt the effects of the national debt.

That's why playing the victim gets you nowhere. It warps reality and not in a fun way. At some point in time Kep has to come to grips with Reagan not being some transformational figure who changed the country by virtue of his iron will vs weak Dems, but rather a great communicator who was giving a solid majority of the public, even those sainted poors that he cares for, exactly what they were asking for at the time. That was high spending (defense and otherwise) as well as lower taxes. If tax cuts for plutes was leading directly to say 15% interest rates on your mortgage, watch how fast the public would react. However, voters are willing to accept a 95% tax cut for Trump in order to get their 3-5%. Why? There's no consequences. So, they're in on it too. Same thing with defense spending. Everybody's spending is bad....except for what's occurring in your own district.

I asked you guys what they've accomplished legislatively post Reagan. Good call out of the Patriot Act by trix. I agree the courts are a problem, but look, that's a failure of the left to show up for elections

Typical Democrat establishment, blame the voters. Last I knew, there were chitloads of "smart" Democratic strategists who get paid chitloads of money every election to energize the electorate and get out the vote. That's their only job.

And you say they're failing at that? But we should just keep on doing things exactly the same way, cause that's the way we've always done it.

So I'll ask you the same question I posed earlier. Name me, in your opinion, the last true rufus approved progressive who's won a Presidential election. Here's a hint - if you have to go back to the first half of the previous century, is it *possible* that what you're advocating doesn't win elections?

Sorry the truth hurts.
People don't do noble things for "the people."
They look out for themselves.
Honestly...IMO the bigger problem is rich vs poor not D vs R.
You may be right that the 27 trillion is gone...but the Republicans are not solely responsible.
You can cite all the books you want...most people do not care.

I documented what I was screaming about below. You want me to make it personal on a message board I am not going to, sorry. I have made it personal with letters to my representatives.

Re: POTUS 45:53: I Didn't Appoint That Judge So It Doesn't Matter.

The last hour on this thread is the most depressed I've been since Dump won.

If people who call themselves Dems don't understand what has been happening in this country the last 2 generations what is there to do but drink and pray?

This. So much this.

Does it have to effect you personally for it to be a problem?

Like all those Republicans who don't give a crap about healthcare or gay rights until their kid comes out, or is born with Down's syndrome.
