And per the Monroe Doctrine, the US wasn't going to get involved in European or Asian affairs. How did that work prior to 1962?

Sorry, how did we end up with an army base in the Philippines prior to WWI? How did we end up with bases scattered all across Europe, and Japan, and S. Korea?

After 1900, we barely heeded our own policy. By 1963, the >100yo doctrine was just an old piece of paper to be ignore, much the same as it was for the first 20 or so years it was written by the rest of the world.

I like that Donald Trump spends his day taking meetings with the CEO of Twitter in order to complain in person about losing followers. I mean, I'm pretty sure that's how Washington and Jefferson spent their days, too. Right?
