The "blameless life" bothers me. If the judge said, "Hey, he's old, this is enough." Bah, but well, okay fine. I'll take it.

Regarding Manafort, lets see what the other judge gives him before we break out the crying towels. If he gets another 10 years tacked on, then that's about right. The dude's pushing 70. He can't serve time from beyond the grave!

Only 20k new jobs when 180k was expected. At least the unemployment rate dropped to 3.8%- but I'm not sure how the math works that we get a .2% drop in unemployment with 20k additional jobs.... Something doesn't add up.

For the owners, earning is up- which says they could employ more (but they are not).

Not bad for the rich people who got a tax cut, not great for the lower and middle that thought dumpy was going to get them good paying jobs.

This Judge spent the trial, and the sentencing sucking up to Mr. Manafort. The sentence is a complete joke. This next Judge better throw the book at him.

There are a few things that could happen outside of just new jobs. Discouraged workers could have quit searching for jobs (former coal miners who've not been trained for new types of employment), older workers could have retired, teenagers could have turned lazy again and dropped out of the workforce for their videogames, and a few other options, too. Those are three of the most common examples. I don't have time to research before my meeting that starts in a minute.

None of those help the economy, as all of them are potential consumers that just gave up. Which make the decrease of the unemployment bad news.

Which is kind of my point that the decrease was supposed to be good news, but it's not.

Agreed. The problem is that the Baby Boomers can only hold out for so long in the workforce before they either die or stroke out one too many times. So U figures like the ones we received this month will likely become more commonplace until we can get the migrants out of the gray markets and into the official workforce.

This is 100% correct by the way. The reporting and Dump's glee about it has been ridiculous.

Ok, so the data needs to be a little richer in information.

For instance, if I retire tomorrow, and someone takes my spot, that's a net zero on the new employment rolls; and at the same time, it's a reduction in unemployment. With the bonus that if I planned my retirement right, I will continue to be a reliable consumer until I die.

So the data needs info about people who have the ability to stop working and still consumer, people who stop work and then have to rely on help, and people who just give up.

Which is to say, there's a lot of info that needs digested in a really good employment report. That makes sense.
