I think it's possible for an issue to be of such overwhelming weight that nothing else matters. Given the way the Must Punish Sexually Active Women With Pregnancy types think, it seems pretty fair to me that they would not let anything else get in the way of their choice.

After all, if you allow other considerations it's possible you might wind up supporting a candidate who doesn't punish sexually active women with pregnancy, and then where would we all be?

Case in point. Democratic House just passed another gun control measure. If they wanted they could just throw their hands up and say it's not going to pass the Senate anyway like Turtle Boy throws his hands up and says we're not going to vote on anything unless Dump approves of it first.

While I don't necessarily disagree with you I think people tend to be really horrible in general at weighting multiple variables and coming to an overall conclusion. Just think back to all the arguments you had on GPL about Delmon Young and some of the arguments that were made. "Well he hit 20 HRs and 112 RBI's!" while being legitimately horrible at baserunning and defense, somehow in their mind he was still some All Star despite the WAR metrics suggesting that he was more of a role player in that one year (and below replacement level every other year). Unsurprisingly he was out of the league before he turned 30. I see this a lot in hockey analytics circles where all encompassing WAR metrics aren't as developed and people just sorta pick and choose numbers at random to justify their narratives.

So it's not particularly surprising that it happens in this realm either despite it being far more important to our everyday lives. Especially when we're talking about nuanced topics that don't have easy solutions and people who are easily distracted by the culture wars.

Oh man, those were horrible arguments. I hated Delmon Young and his bandwagoners (rather, I hated that he was being paid money to play baseball by my team). You make a good point.

The ability to weigh multiple variables at the same time has to be the hallmark of intelligence, right?

But of course if there's an investigation then there's discovery and I'm not sure these dumbas-ses want yet another opportunity to put on the record the evidence of all the times that Dumpy lied, cheated, and stole.

They're not very smart. No wonder they've risen in the GOP.
