I left the country once in 2018, flew to Quebec City. Prior to that, I last left the US in 2000 for a European vacation.

I'm willing to bet that the majority of Americans don't leave the US because we are geographically large and diverse - from glaciers to the tropics, you can see experience it all without changing currency. We're 9,629,091 km^2 while all of Europe is roughly 10,180,000 km^2. We have size and convenience, which likely lends to a lot of domestic travel.

You can spend $100/10 years for a specific document or just use your DL to fly. Since everyone who flies likely has a DL, then use it. Unless you go across a border...

And given the number of cruisers I know who do not have passports (they are not required for specific cruises), then I can easily see and understand people who do not fly across a border not getting a passport.

And in the context of this current argument, if a passport is required to vote, that becomes a poll tax for all of us.

There are other situations where it is useful to have a passport. I consider it money well spent even though I only leave the country every few years. To each their own I guess.

And that's the important part. $100 is a lot of money to most people.

this made mookie go and check... but he currently has a rabbit card, two oyster cards, an instanbulkart, and a nol card. and all have balances on them so mookie can go and get on straight from the airport without needed to topp off :D

No, I get that, however there are people who do like to travel internationally and will very quickly cut into those who choose to travel domestically.

Most Nodaks are of the rightful opinion that there's not much to see west of the Badlands or east of the Red. South Dakota has the Corn Palace, but you can see pictures of that online nowadays. Doesn't seem fair to people born and raised elsewhere.

Same here. I've been to Canada a few times, but it was back when a passport wasn't needed to drive across. Didn't get a passport until relatively recently, since it was needed for work.

Either way, I should probably travel more both domestically and internationally.

So would you be ok if she was brought back and then charged? That's what he's actually asking other countries to do.

This is a tough one- if a person goes to another country with the intent to fight a war against the home country- how do you deal with them? Enemy combatant? POW? Traitor?

The UK just revoked the citizenship of a girl in the same scenario.

Actions have consequences. I’m not sure if stripping citizenship or throwing their azzes in jail to rot is the better solution

To make a treason charge stick, they'd have to prove she actually conspired and/or fought against the US and its allies. If all she did was fall for some guy, marry him, crank out a kid, and make a few "DEATH TO AMERICA" social media posts, that's not treason.

I think I'm OK with Trump/Pompeo doing this. Plus, I keep hearing she's not actually a citizen, though this may just be righties misreading the law, as they often do.

I don't see what's tough about it. If* she's an American citizen she's entitled to due process and a trial and sentencing like anybody else. She doesn't lose her citizenship and she doesn't lose the right to re-enter the country. If she's been charged with a criminal offense and she's in custody in a country with which we have extradition, bring her home in irons to stand trial. Upon conviction she'll rot in a cell or get the chair, depending upon the conviction and sentencing.

We need to stop doing all this extralegal crap skirting the Constitution and the legal system. There should be no exceptions to due process. The witchcraft of the day, whatever it is -- treason, pedophilia, or, well, witchcraft -- should have Americans** processed in our legal system with full rights.



* Pompeo says she isn't, but that counts for less than zero. We need an actual legal battle over her citizenship status, not fiat by herpa-derp.

** Even if she isn't a citizen she meets the definition of "US Person," and therefore she's covered by Constitutional protections.
