We were in Phoenix last week and when he threatened to close the border all the Republicans there were ready to commit suicide. Everyone there, even the conservatives, knows the wall is ridiculous. Threatening the Southwest with economic ruin is an excellent way to speed the migration of AZ and TX to the blue column. If that is the price for making OH and MI permanently red I'll take that trade.

Its easy to remember the level of stupidity simply due to the broader macro economic impact. But its easy to forget, shutting the border is a critical local economic issue in So. TX, NM, AZ and CA.

Reading the later-linked article, unless I mis-read it, the Mueller investigation turned it over to other authorities, as it wasn't relevant to the Russia stuff.

The only cause of massive electoral chaos that I can think of would be if Chump aligned secretaries of state refused to certify the results of states that he lost. The problem with that is they'd be on the hook since its their job to ensure fair elections, so they'd basically be calling themselves incompetent on a national level. Beyond that though it may not be relevant as Hillary states + PA/MI/WI put the Dems over the top, and I'm not sure any of those 25 or so states have Republican SoS's. So even if say FL refused to certify because of made up fraud accusations, it wouldn't matter if the Dem candidate was already at 270 (269 actually since they control the House now and the House breaks a tie).

As usual, Atrios nails it.

It's the dumb pundit frame that's been in operation for years. Republicans are the Very Serious Daddy party and they bring order and stability, a good income, a level of Seriousness, fiscal responsibility, and are entitled by law to head all of the really important positions, like Defense, Intelligence, FBI, etc. Democrats are the Mommy Party and they do things like take care of the birthday parties and fix your knee when you have a booboo and hug you when you cry.

But the reality is, the stereotypical "mommy" work is actually really important. The kids gotta eat and get to school, after all. More than that, Mommy takes care of most of the "serious" work while Dad just takes credit for it.

The deficit will soon be the most important crisis this country faces, again, and while that is stupid and wrong, the pundits will demand that the Mommy Party save all of its dimes and quarters for a "rainy day" instead of buying new shoes for the kid, which she will do, and then Daddy will take credit for the savings and go on a binge party in Las Vegas with his rich buddies.

As he does every single time.
