Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

I actually agree with SJ with a caveat or two:
If you have a felony conviction before you get here you don't get in.
If you are a non-citizen (didn't become one after arrival) and are convicted of a felony you're deported.

And if you read the end of his fifth paragraph, he's being very "Chamber of Commerce" (Rs) minded. And he's tacitly trying to keep SoSec from tipping over: there aren't enough payers to keep it afloat.

The problem (why it can't happen) with SJ's very sound plan?
Tacitly he makes US citizenship a requirement for voting. (Read his fourth paragraph closely.) That will never fly with some on the political spectrum.

Are you saying that currently it is legal for non-citizens to vote? If so why are your comrades all whining about illegals voting? Apparently it is their right to do so.

Oh you are trolling...carry on.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

For the record, the plants being shut down are:

Lordstown, Ohio -
Chevy Cruze (Only production facility. Cruze hatchback only made in Mexico)

Hamtramck, Michigan -
Cadillac CT6 (Only production facility)
Buick LaCrosse (Only production facility)
<strike>Cadillac ELR (Only production facility)</strike>
Chevrolet Impala (Also made in Oshawa, Ontario)
Chevrolet Malibu (Also made in Fairfax, Kansas)
Chevrolet Volt (Only production facility)

Oshawa, Ontario -
Cadillac XTS (Only production facility)
Chevrolet Impala (Also made in Hamtramck, Michigan)

So in total, three plants shuttered, 15,000 employees laid-off, and the end of <strike>six</strike> five different car models (Cruze, Impala, Volt, LaCrosse, CT6, <strike>ELR,</strike> and XTS)

Holy crap...the Impala? I love the Impala. (have one right now)

Like I said, "As GM goes, so goes [Michigan/the Nation]."

Held true growing up in Michigan, and still holds true today.

So lets see...tech stocks underperforming caused a correction, Oil prices tanking caused a slow down and now GM is about to cut jobs. This should go well...

Can we solve this by raking too?

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

He asks in a tweet why Mueller isn't interviewing any of the people in his campaign who didn't collude.

For somebody who apparently had the highest level of security clearance in the government, its astounding how many basic facts Sic gets wrong! If he truly was involved in this country's nuclear defense program, I'm amazed that we're not all speaking Russian now. :D

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

He asks in a tweet why Mueller isn't interviewing any of the people in his campaign who didn't collude.

So then, everyone Mueller's interviewed so far colluded with the Russians.

Like, we knew that already, but it's nice to have the confirmation.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

Umm.... recidivism? Convicts do tend to re-offend.

Sure, when they re-offend you prosecute them again. The sentence is adjusted to take into account the multiple offenses. It's not rocket science. It would be easily applied to any non-citizen as well.

Depending on sales, yes.

Sedans aren't selling well with the move to crossovers (yet another market AMC was decades ahead of with the AMC Eagle) as seen with Ford's axing of every car model not named Mustang.

I could see the Kansas plant being re-tooled to allow for some Impala cars to be made if they do decide to keep the brand. I believe my full size Pontiac Grand Prix was made in Kansas, so there is hope the brand remains.

But, just like the Chevelle and Monte Carlo name plates, the Impala could have its last ride in 2019.

The Holden Commodore import known as the SS was recently halted last year due to slow sales, and the fact that it likely resembled the Impala too much.

The modern SUVs have shrunk enough to not be behemoths, and yet still have all the cargo space a family needs, basically replacing any sort of sedan. It's a shame for the sedan fans, but that's the way it goes sometimes. Trends will change again in the future. I mean, we aren't THAT far removed from the Hummer/Excursion/ALL THE SUV SIZE era.

Re: POTUS 45.44: "That's Not Law" said Trump

Some of you need to wake up and smell the coffee.

Estimates of visa overstay is 30-50%. But we are not talking about them- we are talking about the wall.

Estimates suggest that ~30% of illegal immigrants come from countries other than the ones south of us. But we are not talking about them- we are talking about the wall.

US Customs and Border reports ~300k apprehensions at the border, well down from the ~1,600k about 20 years ago- so we are no where near an explosion or invasion on a historical basis. And we are STILL talking about the wall.

So far, all terrorist acts in the US that were NOT domestic were sourced from other countries than the ones to the south- but we are still talking about the wall.

Our president's family is out selling opportunities to come to the US from China, Russia, etc- for money. Yet we are still talking about the wall.

Please don't pretend that this whole BS is something other than blatant racism.

If you really believe that it's irrelevant that a (likely) white Irishman had a pretty easy time getting here vs. any person from a country south of us- you are not paying attention, or you are in total denial.

If you REALLY think that we helped Puerto Rico recover from Maria anywhere NEAR Florida for Irma and Houston for Harvey, you are in total denial.

This WHOLE THING is about racism, and it always has been. There's NO WALL being talked about in Canada, where someone from any British Commonwealth can freely go to- even if they are bad hombres. And there are places where you can just stroll across the border without any checks. The idea that bad people only cross from Mexico is ANOTHER racist flag.

Not to say this is new, at all. To me, the push to this new tightening is justification to pay their illegal immigrants less money for the same work that they have always done for the rich and powerful.

And that's the reason the open border idea will never work- as everyone crossing the border to do work that American's don't want to do will be paid and benefited by minimum wage and worker protection laws. They are the easiest people to keep well below the law.

Engine technology and gas mileage (which our wonderful EPA is trying to roll back) has also improved greatly where a 6.0L V8 isn't needed to roll that SUV with confidence through traffic. A modern 1.5L I4 wheels it just as well.

Comparing the first ever 1992 Ford Explorer to the 2019, and the modern Explorer: engine has double the HP on two less cylinders. Is eight inches wider and a couple inches longer. And seats two more. All while getting better MPG.

It also goes with the American psyche that bigger is better and small cars are cheap and unsafe.

That's the American Way: Bigger, Better, Faster, More.

And alfa: currently, yes the immigration thing is completely racial. I agree that we need to look at ALL illegal immigrants, no matter the color/country/whatever. I still say that ALL immigrants need to pass all the checkmarks to get into this country. If they do that? Cool.
