POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

I was talking to my dad last night and I asked him if he's ever seen a more chaotic time in his life.

He said that other administrations were pretty crazy in heir first year. Reagan was one he specifically said. But he said he doesn't remember this much fear and chaos since 1968.

The fear and chaos in 1968 did not arise out of a transition between administrations, though I doubt that is what your dad was implying, dx. It was a time that is difficult to reconcile or explain--one year from the summer of love, fabulous music, a lot of worthwhile social awareness and participation and, at the same time, much fear and chaos, as your dad said.

Spies gonna spy.

Yup, but that aint the issue. It's that no matter how the Trumpies try to intimidate or neuter the American IC, there are plenty of other entities out there who probably have their deals with the Russians on tape. Which means:

1) Other countries now know as much or more about the US administration's ties to a foreign power than does the US IC.

2) That puts them in a leverage position.

3) That means all the lies past and future by the Trumpies can be upended at a moment's notice by selective releases of information.

4) Given Trump's out of control ego and self-delusion, that sets up our own allies as his next targets of blame and poutrage.

In other news, oh goody.

President Trump is reigniting his feud with the intelligence community, criticizing it for leaks that led to his decision to oust Michael Flynn as national security adviser.

Trump called Flynn a “wonderful man” and doubled down on his condemnation of the leaks from law enforcement and spy agencies that revealed Flynn misled senior officials in the White House about his conversations with Russia’s ambassador.

“From intelligence, papers are being leaked, things are being leaked; it’s criminal action. It’s a criminal act, and it’s been going on for a long time before me, but now it’s really going on,” Trump said during a joint news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“People are trying to cover up for a terrible loss that the Democrats had under Hillary Clinton,” he continued.

This dipsh-t shoudn't be trusted to run a shelter for homeless lemurs let alone the word's only superpower. Lock him up.

Even I'm not old enough to remember this, but PBS had a show on Bonnie and Clyde last night. One of the talking heads spoke about the late 1920's and early 1930's, and how a large segment of our population, beaten down, unemployed, many without homes, etc..., idolized individuals like Bonnie and Clyde, John Dillinger, and Pretty Boy Floyd. The public idolized movie stars who played these types of characters, and essentially rooted for these real life hoods to succeed, notwithstanding the fact these people were criminals, sometimes sadistically cruel and killing their friends and neighbors. I have to imagine that was pretty chaotic.

Correct. It was just a very tumultuous time. One that almost broke the country.

He was lucky enough to turn 18 in 1968 and was able to experience everything while he came of age. Those were his formative years.

The United States sure loves to break the rule about learning from history so you do not repeat it. It's like Groundhog Day every day with this administration.

New EO on immigration next week! <-- Just reported on Stu Varney on Fox Bidnez Channel

Wait for it. Wa-a-a-ait for it.

PS - ... watch the other hand from now until then ...

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

Well until recently it was because you were far and away the craziest person here. But with all this Trump defense and deflection, it seems like your fellow knucks are making you more of a primus inter pares.

You may need to up your game, man.

Those who stand out in history, for better or for worse, are considered "crazy" by some. I'm almost assuredly not going to go down in history, nor do I intend on doing so, but these are the makings.

I will, however, recommend looking at the sources provided. You may color yourself surprised. I know I did.

How about finishing the first 100 days task list instead. Or having a full cabinet, and under-secretaries named. Or doing the job you were hired to do.

Full-time campaign mode (including scraping for donations) by elected officials grates on me. Do the < bleep > job. If you do it well you'll get re-elected.

Alls I know is he better get that swamp under control, because it's starting to engulf him. And with Obama sticking around to run a shadow government...

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

This level of willful ignorance in areas of foreign policy such as the the Occupied Territories is why he is just plain ********** dangerous.

But hey, Clinton killed an ambassador . . . .
Personally, I just think he's lazy. He hasn't had to work his entire life.

I'm almost certain this is what he thinks. For something like the Israel/Palestine problem, he thinks he can, without any sort of study or preparation ahead of time, simply walk into a room with one or both of the parties, ask "what's the problem", and then come up with some brilliant idea that he thinks solves it. Then he leaves it to some underling to solve.

No doubt that's how his business empire is run. He flies down and looks at a piece or property in Costa Rica, tells the government officials and landowners about this big resort that would look great, create all kinds of jobs, and make everyone money. The officials nod their heads and think, yeah that sounds kind of good. Then Trump goes home and expects someone else to perform the nuts and bolts of the task.

If you have extremely talented and hardworking people directly under you, that might work in the business setting, but I suspect you're going to have more than your share of failures. Not so sure about governing. I don't think he has the hardworking talented people underneath him to get those tasks done. More importantly, most of those problems require a little forethought.

Probably best case scenario is this. Trump talks like he did yesterday about the middle east problem, but then nothing ever happens. For those things where the status quo doesn't hurt us, we'll be fine. For the others, we'll have to trust that foreign governments understand that our Presidents are just a temporary thing.

Who could have possibly seen this coming?

Re: POTUS 45.4 - What's a Battle?

That's silly, unless you want to count those actually casting a ballot for Trump as 2 votes for him.

When you win a game you gain a half game in the standings. When you lose a game you lose half a game. Sic got rained out. No change in the standings. At worst his opportunity cost was the half game he could have gained by voting for Clinton, but by his refusal to vote Sic was saying he had no preference between Clinton and Trump. A lot of people followed suit, and here we are in the End Times. But it's not the non-voters' fault.

The arsonists are the ones who started this fire -- the actual Trump voters. The firemen were the Hillary voters and we didn't have enough strength to put the fire out. Now it's true that Sic just walked by with his hands in his pockets and didn't help the firemen. But that doesn't make him an arsonist. At worst it just makes him lazy or irresponsible. But in his defense, Sic didn't (and apparently doesn't) believe fire is bad.
Great analogy (or is it a metaphor? I never care to remember) except that you forgot about the part where all the fireman told the passersby to "stand back cause we've got this covered", posed for pictures and discussed how well they'll stamp out the fires in the coming years. Only the Dalmatian (OK it was really the Great Dane but it fits better) was yapping out a warning

Not really. Once Comey started opening his flap the firemen were trying to find new water sources and couldn't find any in time.

Being a gullible consumer of sensationalist fairy tales ginned up to sell ad space doesn't make somebody "stand out" in history. It makes them the norm -- just another brood sow in the Giant Eagle check out line.

I really wanted to give you props for the "The American President" quote, then you went and ruined it with that tinfoil dreck.
