It's been said in these forums that too many democrats need to "fall in love" with their candidates. Stories like
this one are a perfect illustration of that danger.
The hypocrisy of republicans is why they vote for candidates like trump or Roy Moore. The relatively comparative lack of it among many democratic voters might keep some from voting for a candidate like Randy Bryce, running for Paul Ryan's House seat in Wisconsin. For the next few years, and certainly for the next two elections (2018 and 2020) progressives and anyone who actually cares about the future of this country cannot afford to be that pure. Normally I'd say repeated transgressions like Bryce has exhibited would be disqualifying, but I'd take him over ANY sober republican even if Bryce was showing up on the House floor with a fifth of Jack in his suit coat pocket. The differences between the worst candidate the democrats are running for dog catcher and the best candidate the republicans are running for any office are that stark.
The republican party needs to be curb stomped. And when it goes down it needs voters to then stomp on its back and make its kidneys bleed, so that any and all ability to get up and fight will be gone. Only then at that point the handful of republicans in this country who are not either bigots or dupes can then begin to rebuild the party into something that actually is a patriotic political organization. If you care about the survival of anything resembling a democracy in the United States, no republican should get your vote. As long as it is allowed in your state, fill out the bubble near the top with the "D" next to it, or just run down the list and vote for anyone with the "D" next to their name. For the next few years we have to fight fire with fire. I am so sick of democrats who come to a gun fight without guns, hell they don't even come with knives. They come with identity politics and another letter affixed to the alphabet soup of inclusion, all the while conceding election after election to people who don't give the first 5h!t about anyone unless all those letters spell "R I C H A N D W H I T E."
