Second, there actually is something that is a concentration camp, and real people were sent to them and died in them, and I find it pretty insulting to those people to suggest that the living situation of these kids at the border is a concentration camp.

So the Japanese American Internemt Camps and German American Internment camps were just Club-Med for those ethnicities in the 1940's??

I think I've made it pretty clear what my position has been on these detentions. It's post #90, if you're interested. I don't think these people should be detained at all, let alone separated from family members.

But, of course, you guys wouldn't know that because you're too blinded by your rage to read or listen to what others are saying or make anything remotely close to a sensible argument.

And BTW, the concentration camps didn't start out to be camps where people were killed wholesale. Those were the extermination camps, like Auschwitz. Concentration camps, where people were held together in a concentrated space. So, yeah...………………………….

Concentration camps initially were constructed to hold political enemies and other activists against the Nazi state. Again, what actions taken by this administration will be enough before you become concerned? What act will be going too far for you?

You know not all Concentration Camps were for extinction...many were work camps and places just to house the undesireables until they could then transport them to one of the death camps. The term is being used correctly.

Not everyone in concentration camps got sent off to be gassed. many of them just stayed where they were, in concentration camps.

"Concentration camp, internment centre for political prisoners and members of national or minority groups who are confined for reasons of state security, exploitation, or punishment, usually by executive decree or military order."

"Stalag" meant "prisoner-of-war camp."

Here is a discussion of the concentration camps from the United States Holocaust Museum. There were 3 stages:

1. Detention camps

From its rise to power in 1933, the Nazi regime built a series of detention facilities to imprison and eliminate so-called "enemies of the state." Most prisoners in the early concentration camps were German Communists, Socialists, Social Democrats, Roma (Gypsies), Jehovah's Witnesses, homosexuals, and persons accused of "asocial" or socially deviant behavior. These facilities were called “concentration camps” because those imprisoned there were physically “concentrated” in one location.

2. Labor camps

Following the German invasion of Poland in September 1939, the Nazis opened forced-labor camps where thousands of prisoners died from exhaustion, starvation, and exposure. SS units guarded the camps. During World War II, the Nazi camp system expanded rapidly. In some camps, Nazi doctors performed medical experiments on prisoners.

3. Death camps

To facilitate the "Final Solution" (the genocide or mass destruction of the Jews), the Nazis established killing centers in Poland, the country with the largest Jewish population. The killing centers were designed for efficient mass murder. Chelmno, the first killing center, opened in December 1941. Jews and Roma were gassed in mobile gas vans there. In 1942, the Nazis opened the Belzec, Sobibor, and Treblinka killing centers to systematically murder the Jews of the Generalgouvernement (the territory in the interior of occupied Poland).

The Nazis constructed gas chambers (rooms that filled with poison gas to kill those inside) to increase killing efficiency and to make the process more impersonal for the perpetrators. At the Auschwitz camp complex, the Birkenau killing center had four gas chambers. During the height of deportations to the camp, up to 6,000 Jews were gassed there each day.
