And, here ya go. can't enact nice new programs that will help people unless they're fully paid for. can't get more money to pay for them because Repubs will not go for tax increases.

So, nothing gets done, and Repubs get elected next time.

Yes. Republicans have found a way to run on being fiscally conservative and then doing the opposite when they get power.

Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

Clean Air and Clean Water was happening under the Obama administration by keeping the current EPA standards in place. Republicans in Minnesota tried to throw out the clean water standard and their Democratic Governor said no. Flint had water problems because the GOP thought cash was more important than human beings.

Energy Independence. That can be achieved through sound energy policy and taking a lead on clean energy in the world. It's also going to be a huge cash cow. Republicans have sold out to Coal and Oil.

Sound competent foreign policy can be achieved by not hiring John Bolton and Rudy Guiliani to your administration.

Good jobs and good wages can be achieved through programs that retrain coal miners for 21st century jobs, good education standards, and new initiatives for tech schools. We've been bad mouthing them for years, we need to stop. And that can be helped by real counseling in our schools. School counseling funding has been slashed to bone by Republicans.

Immigration. Complete immigration reform. Including a complete study on the jobs Americans do not want and are not filling and a way to fill those from Mexico and Central America with documentation.

Balanced Budget. Simple Real Tax Reform. If we need it, we pay for it. IF we don't need it we get rid of it. The State Department should get increased funding. The military should get less. Diplomacy is cheaper, and it works better.

Social Security fixes are easy. The Current tax setup for it is wrong, and it's regressive. Fix it.

Tuition free college is cheaper than prisons. Nuff said there. Fund it. Tax for it. Do it.

Health Care for all. Medicare for all. Raise the tax if you have to. Insurance companies had their shot. They BLEW IT. So, take them out of the loop.

Gun control. Treat guns like cars to start. Offer buyback programs across the US for Military style weapons. This one will take a long time but let's start somewhere.

Yeah, good luck with that. Simplistic feel good bromides, with no specifics or details on how you're gonna do it. You ain't gonna raise taxes. Will not happen. if it does, you're out of office at the next election. And I love your solution for SS. "Fix it". How. And what is "sound energy policy'?

You can't just run off what you just said and expect people to go "wow, it's so simple". That's not gonna be enough to get people to vote for you. You gotta tell them how you'll do it, what it'll cost, where that money comes from, and how that makes it better for them.

The Republicans don't do that. Why the double standard? Also, I explained how I am going to do it. If you don't want higher taxes than vote Republican. Plain and simple.

Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

So everyone who supports Dems is weak. Yeah, that'll go over well.

I gave you my definition of liberalism. "Protect the weak from the strong" is what I am thinking when I say "I am a liberal."

joe at least knows exactly what I mean. It's why he is anti-choice. If I held his axioms about what life is, I would be there with him. "Protecting the unborn" would be the ultimate liberal position if it wasn't a crock of sh-t.

All the other stuff I can do on my own without government. I am strongly individualistic. Government exists for one purpose: to protect the weak from the strong. That means protecting the environment from polluters, protecting democratic institutions from corruption, protecting law abiding citizens from criminals, protecting the poor from the propertied.

Republicans believe that government exists to protect property, period. It would not be an exaggeration to say all the Republican policies of the last half century amount to "Protect the strong from the weak." Republicans protect whites, men, straights, Christians, the rich -- the strong. They lie to themselves that they are the weak under siege, but they are the strong and they want to continue to have the freedom to hurt the weak.

That's difference between the left and the right, Charlie Brown.

Just stop. Why don't you take a look at what has been undone in the last year and a half as a starting point for what they had already done.

And yet, none of that seemed to matter to the electorate. But somehow, you think this time it'll be different.

It won't. Which is why I documented my feelings on wishing I were 20 again so I could leave the country. The board centrist and a Republican said I was lying and disingenuous because I don't just pick up and leave now. That's fine. They can call me a ***** too if they want. I don't care.

Honestly the dems just need to play chicken and spend whatever the hell they want when they have the power to do so. We don't need a balanced budget.

Because Republicans get elected, while Democrats don't. What obviously works for them doesn't work for Democrats. You need to try something else, instead of running the same old gameplan that has gotten us here.

Why you don't understand that I don't know.

You can have higher taxes. But you better be ready to explain whose taxes will go up, and why higher taxes is a good thing. And not just "it'll give us more money to spend more". People think government spends too much already.

"Higher taxes on those making more than $250,000/year means the admission fees for national parks won't be so high. Your state and local taxes won't be as high. Your hunting and fishing licenses won't cost so much, it won't cost so much to register your car. And we'll be able to pay down the budget deficit, where currently, about a third of the federal budget goes to paying interest on. Not principle and interest, just the interest. You guys have credit cards, you know what I'm talking about.

You may pay $2000 more in taxes to fund single payer health insurance, but that will be less than is taken out of your paycheck right now for employer based insurance. Your deductibles and copays will be less, and you will have more coverage"

It's simple. You just need to explain it in ways that people understand, not "this will bend the health care cost curve" gibberish.

Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

Scoob, you and rufus are on the same side of the ball. I don't know why he offends you so much. Or why trix offends Handy (I thinks it's Handy, it might be Brent, I mix them up, no, it's Handy cuz Brent is a righty, right?) so much. FFS, people, we're all on the same side.

You want something simple and negative for 2018: "take the toys from the toddler."

Then in 2020: "send the rat bast-rd back to NY." Or maybe, "free Melania," since she's obviously going to dump him the second he's out of office.

If you need an explanation for what taxes are for then you're already voting Republican anyway. That's not why they stayed home. They stayed home because they have to fall in love. And they were not in love. They weren't in love with Gore. They weren't in love with Kerry. They were in love with Obama. Find someone they can love you'll win. Find someone they can't and the Republicans will win again. Plain and simple.

Republicans believe that government exists to protect property, period.

This is obvious every time a republican points at the electoral college map and brags (or cries) about the vast areas of red and the tiny areas of blue. A republican's wet dream might be to find a way to let property -- land -- vote.

They also believe capital is more important than humans. See the tax code.

Handy is probably still mad about some argument we had about baseball stats in like 2011 or something.

The GOP would love to weight votes by wealth. The Democrats would love to weight votes by GRE scores.

But seriously, the ideal Republican institution is the joint-stock company, where voting is by share, not investor. Republicans would say that only makes sense -- you should be valued based on what you've put in and what you have to lose. One dollar, one vote -- coming to you with the 2050 SCOTUS unless we can pry these as-sholes off the bench. McCutcheon already paved the way.

You do get that even if they didnt have this rule and they went with the idea the liberals said that nothing would get done right? They wont have the votes to break what will be a guaranteed veto. Not to mention they wont have the Senate votes either.

But yeah...fiscal responsibility is the problem

That and they all share some commonalities on a certain issue (minus Obama who pretended to be to the left on this issue for a while)... what could that issue possibly be again...
