Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

Kepler: Dump won on A and B.

Rover: No. Look at my list: B B B B B B B B B.

I don't know where you work, but where I do the Dumpies always talk about putting Americans back to work, reviving the middle class, stopping unfair trade practices, and (amazingly) putting Watt Street in its place. They are talking about pocketbook issues.

I agree with you that xenophobia and racism are also bigly motivators of Dumpies, but angry populist economics is out there, too. That's why all the Movement Conservatives from places like Weekly Standard and National Review were committing suicide wheh Dump got the nomination: they finally understood that conservative voters in America have absolutely no interest in their supply side claptrap and never did. It's all about the prairie fires of populism sweeping down from the American Steppe to swallow the cities.

And that's why Trumpy talked that all along the campaign trail, along with all the anti-immigrant, racist crap. he didn't mean a word of it(a billionaire, gonna crack down on other billionaires??) But people believed it. And a lot of them voted on that.

They still believe it. That voting block is locked in. Did he add some people on the margins who got fooled? Sure, but that was on the margins.

Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

Some are. Most aren't. Manchin for example is so afraid of losing his job and so afraid of Trump he's neutered. He's still better than the alternative. That's not hard to figure out.

How about the alternative being a Democrat who isn't afraid of losing his job, and not afraid of Trump? I guess that's too much to ask for.

We have a number of them in Congress right now. Both Houses.

So what are you offering everyone else? "We're not Trump We'll bring back sane Republican policies".

Sorry, that ain't gonna cut it.

Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

That's funny because not a single thing this administration has done has accomplished any of that. It takes a long time for the economy to catch up with policy changes. What Trump has done to the economy won't be known for another couple of years.

Obviously. It's all a lie. It was all always a lie, of course, because Dumpy lies to people just for practice, or just to watch his dumb followers solemnly repeat the lie. He gets off on making his slaves dance, like all bullies do.

But the point is it's what Dumpity Dump Dump ran on.

Rover says it didn't happen. That's why Rover's an idiot.

Re: POTUS 45.34: Spy Gate. No Spy. No Gate.

So what are they doing?

Everything they can. When you are in the minority there is very little you have control over. They are speaking out, they are voting, they are proposing policy ideas, they are asking tough questions in hearings. They're even obstructing what they can.

Not sure what you want but you're getting everything they can give.

They sided with Republicans to weaken banking regulations. Yep, doing what they can to make things better.

Definitely not hearing them taking their cases to the public. Where all the difference will be made.

A D who votes with us 1% of the time is better than an R who votes with us 0% of the time, as long as we do not bend over for that 1%er.

Obviously we try to maximize that percentage in the primaries, so with a CA or VT statewide candidate we can gun for 99%, while an AL or MS statewide candidate we'll be VERY lucky if we can win with a 5%.

The Dems who did that should be shot. No quarter given. And I believe that includes my girl Kirsten, so it gives me no pleasure.

The majority of those that supported that did it for the small banks who have been hampered by the regulations. It's a tough spot. You have small banks in your district and you want to support them. The Big Banks were/have been/always will be the problem. In fact I believe that we have forgotten what monopolizing is and have absconded from our responsibilities around it. Everything is merger this and merger that. Earning a profit, giving your workers a good job with benefits, and being responsible to the community isn't enough now you have to earn the billionaire's trillions.

They were handed an all or nothing burger from the Republicans again. It's what you always get from their side. That's why we no longer have triangulation and we no longer have compromise legislation. They have broken the system. And it's not repairable unless Democrats control everything. And they've lost the Courts for decades so good luck.

Rover says it didn't happen. That's why Rover's an idiot.

Rover's not an idiot. Rover's a partisan of the faction that currently controls the DNC, just as I'm a partisan of a faction that is currently on the outs. But there is very little difference between Rover and me. He's a 1990 Dem; I'm a 2040 Dem. At the moment he still has the con, but his grip is gradually, thankfully, slipping.

Also, getting someone to vote for your side in terms of Speaker/Majority Leader and all of the committee chairs is very important towards what legislation sees the light of day, so it is better than nothing at all.

Yet you support Perez. And I do not. And he's more partisan to that faction than Rover.

We haven't lost the courts for decades. Don't overreact. It's bad but it's no worse than say the period in the 20s when the Gilded Age jackwagons had the entire government sewn up.

The ahem "nice" thing about reactionary political domination is it inevitably leads to economic disaster and the opportunity for a backlash. We blew the last opportunity, but in a way all the succession of another conservative wave has done is make the next disaster more devastating and the backlash even stronger.

If I were an actual revolutionary, I would prefer the GOP to keep control and keep destroying people's lives, and then keep cheating to hold on to their power, right up until the moment when the dam, rather than cracking and leaking a bit, simply blew open and unleashed the fury of the flood on our country club overlords. If I advocated actual violent overthrow I would be working every day to keep the Republicans holding on, letting that pressure build... and build... and build...

But I don't. I believe in our processes and our laws. So I want to see us take the sharp objects away from the infants as soon as we possibly can.

I support Perez as a person, not his (and Rover's) faction. Perez is a smart guy. Clearly I would prefer an even smarter, more liberal, guy. But right now I don't see that guy out there -- do you have a suggestion? It is obviously very hard for that guy to thrive in the current Democratic apparatus.

Also, I don't see Perez as cheating towards the moderates in the way that say DWS did. I do see Perez shutting down cheeseball celeb candidates, and I support that. I don't want our version of Roseanne standing for any public office higher than Hollywood dog catcher.

It's all about the prairie fires of populism sweeping down from the American Steppe to swallow the cities. It's the Jeffersonian Myth of the noble healthy lunged, calloused farmer fighting the Evils Of The Decadent City, soft hands from counting money, fercrissakes.

Why I question this as the majority of right wing thought is that I've yet to see good ol' angry rural populist folk protesting Paul Ryan, or Mar-E-Largo or Wall St, or anywhere else. What I am seeing is whites protesting minorities with the examples I've already given. If the right was going all William Jennings Bryan on us, or even a portion of them, they sure are keeping it to themselves from what I've seen.
