Republican string-pullers have a strength in in the political game that is almost primal--a gut instinct for what it takes to capitalize on people's fears. They understand that if you reach people's fears and anxieties, confirmation biases will take care of the rest. And it works wonderfully for them.

I suppose a fair counter would be that the lib string-pullers appeal to people's unrealistic hopes and aspirations to manipulate them. More difficult to get the mob out onto the street that way, though.

There's a reason the Logan Act hasn't been invoked since the mid-19th Century. I don't think it would withstand a first amendment challenge. You can't honestly believe that anything Kerry said harms the US given that he's a private citizen and clearly isn't speaking on behalf of the government or purporting to represent its position. His speech has as much weight as a panhandlers on 5th Avenue.

But concern troll's concern is noted.

US citizens' attention span is almost nothing. Ignore it, and another story will pop up, leaving the Stormy Daniels story forgotten. That's Trump's theory, I think, and he's not far from wrong.

True in many cases but here a 1% annual pay raise against 1.8% average annual inflation over the last decade isn't really a raise.

Well... it is to management.

One of my co-workers in our new field office enjoys tuning into Rush Limbaugh in the afternoons, I caught a little bit of it this afternoon and one woman caller wanted to state that "Don Blankenship is just misunderstood; a couple of careless miners were killed at one of the mines he owned, not his fault, and he's been taking the brunt of Obama's rules trying to shut down coal mining here in Virginia. To this day, Obama is still killing our little town."

I was [ ] to grabbing the radio and throwing it out the window.

The distractions the right keep finding are downright amazing.
